Here's the original post this is coming off of. Sorry I can't make it clicky! https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/65475194.aspx
I have YET to hear back from the original birth center that I've been having these issues with. I'm 100% MORE irritated that they've failed to get back to me and I'm ready to call and give them a piece of my mind.. *deep breaths* but I'm trying to just forget about it.
Someone mentioned (in my last post) another "birth center" that is in our town. Its actually in a hospital, but its run by an OB and two midwives, and its very very much like a birth center. My Hypnobirthing instructor/Doula said I should check them out also. So I called on friday and just asked about their policies. I was put through to talk directly with the OB that over sees it (when you come in you can pick either the OB or the midwives, but the OB is the head of the center) and his exact words, when I told him about the BMI thing with the other center, were, "Thats horrible. We would NEVER turn away a patient over body mass index. its so outdated!" (Come to find out, the overseeing OB is actually the person that founded the entire women's center at this hospital!)
So I set up a meeting with them and it was wonderful. I went this morning and I met both the midwives and the OB, and one of the midwives personally took me on a tour of the birth unit and talked about options with me. They were so surprised that I had issues with the other center and we're very clear that I could have my water birth there regardless of what my situation ended up being at the end of the pregnancy...(like if I had to be induced) It's also $175 cheaper to have a water birth there. The midwives have both had water births also, which was great.
So I went ahead and switched my care to them. I am SO HAPPY about it. They were SO nice and took so much time with me. (The OB i've been seeing talks to me like I'm stupid and always rushes us out of the office) Its also nice that the birth center is actually IN a hospital but you'd never know if from how quiet and homey the unit is. DH was really worried about switching to a unit in the first place because it "isn't a hospital" and this really marries the two for us.
So...yeah. Thats about it. I'm still not sure if I'm going to contact the original center again. I would love to argue with them and get my co-pay back. but I'm not sure i even want to deal with them.
