Anyone started WCM yet?

I EP and my freezer stash is dwindling and I was given the ok to start mixing in WCM since he is 11 months now.  Thinking of waiting another week or so and maybe only giving an oz or so by sippy instead of mixing.  What is your experience so far?

  • We've given him sips here and there but he's EBF so it's never really come up.  He doesn't get a bottle of BM on any sort of regular basis.  Right now his sippies are just water.  I'm in no rush to add in WCM.

  • I am in the same situation (EP with very little "stash"). I was given the ok to add some WCM at 10.5 months. I held out until last week, I started adding 1oz WCM to 4oz BM. She takes the bottle just fine, but she has a moderate case of diaper rash that started a couple days into WCM. I took her to the pedi yesterday and they said to continue with the WCM combo. They think the diaper rash is due to all the strawberries she's been eating. I am laying off the acidic fruit for awhile to see if that helps, so hopefully it isn't the WCM causing it.
  • I started on sunday night adding 2oz of WCM to the formula. He is doing great with it! He did notice it first that something was off but since that first bottle he has been good to go!

I plan on every week upping the amount so that when his first birthday comes he is on 100% WCM.

  • We just started subtracting an ounce of formula from their bottles and putting an ounce of milk in their cups for meals. So far so good. They seem to really like the taste of it.

I like the sippy cup idea rather than just adding it to their bottles because I want them to stop using bottles soon. I have terrible teeth, so I am trying to do everything I can to help them out in that department.

  • Just got the ok from the pedi yesterday, so I'm starting tonight. I'll gradually work on into his bottles, but offer it in a sippy, too.

Interesting side note- pedi said when he's off formula/BM to give him a multi-vitamin.

  • yep. i've added some to his bottles with Formula and he has it on his cereal now.

no reactions so far, thinking I will move to a small amount in a sippy with breakfast each morning and slowly add more and more to his formula over the next few months....
