Our beautiful baby girl was born on December 2nd at 32 weeks, 3days weighing 4lbs 6oz. She spent 23 days in the NICU (which i know is not much compared to many preemies). She is now 5 months old and weighing 13lbs.
It has taken me this long to be ready to tell our story, to share our experiences and to hopefully help other preemie moms get through the difficult times.
I had what I thought was a very normal, healthy pregnancy. Until my water broke at 31 weeks, causing me to #1 - panic! and #2 go to the hosiptal, where i was admitted and told I would be staying on bed rest until my baby was born. It was such an overwhelming day. I had no idea that a baby could stay in after your water breaks, I assumed she would be delivered that day. I had so many questions and so many fears. I knew something wasn't right. They told me that they would keep her until I was 35 weeks and then I would need a c section because she was breech. Three days later Kaylee was delivered by emergency c section after my placenta abrupted and we both almost didn't make it.
It was a scary, overwhelming and stressful experience. I felt a lot of guilt. I was angry that my pregnancy had ended so soon. I resented all those moms that complained about being sooooo huge and soooo done being pregnant (and I still do). But after 5 months I think I am finally starting to heal and get past it.
I hope that I can share my experiences with other preemie moms and help to get through this journey together.
Re: Preemie Mom finally ready to join and share
That's really scary - I'm glad you felt ready to share it. The ladies on this board have always been a great support and I hope you'll get that from it, too. Congratulations, though!
There is a link to a blog in my siggy a bunch of us put together - there are a ton of birth stories there. Maybe reading some of ours will help, you, too. Let me know if you'd like to be included
Congratulations on your little girl and welcome to the board! My water broke around 21 weeks (we're not sure--it was a slow leak), discovered it at 22w6d, and delivered at 26w2d via c-section because she was transverse. After 83 days in the NICU we just brought our Adalyn home this past Thursday.
I totally understand how you feel about people complaining about being over being pregnant. I never even made it to my 3rd trimester. I feel cheated out of the whole experience--I would love to know what it feels like to be so big that you can't see your feet or feel your baby poke you in your ribs. Oh well, hopefully, if I'm fortunate enough to get pregnant again, I'll make it to my 3rd trimester. If anything, I know something those women don't know--how lucky they are.
