bike trailer

Does anyone have a bike trailer for you LO? I got one yesterday for an early mothers day presentBig Smile. I am stoked to use it, just curious to know when will be a good time to start. If you have one are you using it yet if not when do you plan on starting?

We got one for DD's first birthday.  Our pedi gave us the go-ahead to start using it with DS once he could sit very well on his own so we started using it when he was about 8 months old.  Our biggest problem was finding a helmet that fit him, which is something that we won't let the kids go without.

    Both kids absolutely love it!

She can sit up very well by herself, she is trying to walk already we just have to get her a helmet and I think I will give it a try. I was a little worried because it says not for children under 18months but I feel that she is ready for it now. Wink

  • He's been in his for a couple months now.  Finding a helmet was tricky. We ended up with this one

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FABD0G/ref=asc_df_B000FABD0G1998056/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395021&creativeASIN=B000FABD0G&linkCode=asn&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2036074162755516118&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

Also, we have an older model Burley, so I'm not sure if this is a problem with the newer ones, but the helmet was getting pushed forward because it hit the back of the hammock.  I bought a little pillow and I put it behind his back to create a little gap between his head and the hammock so the helmet doesn't get pushed forward.

Last, beware, they do tip!! Take corners VERY slowly . . . DH didn't once . . .

Elijah has been in his since the end of January. We have a Chariot which converts between a bike trailer, a jogger, and a regular stroller, so it has some extra cushion.

  • We have a trailer that connects to our seat post as a pivot point, that way if for whatever reason we fall, the trailer remains upright. We were able to find a helmet at REI without any problem. Our Ped gave us the go ahead at J's 9 month appt (when they also give the go ahead for jogging strollers), just as long as he has his helmet on.
