F/u to my teacher FMLA issue

I posted a few days ago about how it seemed my county was doing something wonky about making me take FMLA and pay for my benefits over the summer. I went and sat w/ the HR coordinator yesterday and had her explain it to me.

DOH! I did what I accuse my students of doing. I didn't read the whole thing before coming to a conclusion. She put me down for FMLA protected leave from 6/8 through 11/5...the summer months don't count toward the usual 3 months.

Now, I'm no dummy. I'm not taking leave at the begining of the school year. I'd spend the rest of the year trying to assert myself and "win" back the authority of a classroom where the HS kids have "owned" the substitute for months. I'm just glad I understand what's up w/ the form. I'll have the OB fill it out tomorrow.

  • Good!  Glad you figured it out.  Well I'm a dummy and I'm not coming back until September.  :)  We start back the first week of August and with my June 30 due date it is just cutting it too close for me.  I can understand your concern.  Last time I was so worried about leaving my class but then once I had the baby I didn't give them a second thought and knew they would be just fine.  It'll all work out.  I had him in Feb and came back in April.  They definitely had developed some bad habits while I was away but I was able to get them back under control within a few weeks.
