It's just not fair

Zoe has been awake almost all day, crying, wanting milk, and generally being fussy. I've barely gotten anything done, I managed to get the dishes done in three stages and put a load of laundry in the washer, but not into the dryer. She's slept for a total of about 3 hours today. Every time I get her to go to sleep, which takes a ridiculous amount of time, and put her down she almost immediately wakes up and within a minute or two starts crying. She's never been a crier, so it's completely out of the norm for us so far.

Well, my H gets home and I'm sitting in the rocker with her, her eyes are wide open and I'm just rocking and crying because she just won't stop today and I don't know what to do. He asked if there was anything he could do and I just said to make her sleep. He took her from me, held her for about 30 seconds and then said he had to walk the dogs, so he put her down in her crib. I waited about 2 minutes and she still hadn't started crying, so I peaked at her and she was fast asleep. Now he's back from walking the dogs and he thinks it's funny. I'm having trouble finding the humor in it right now.

  • Don't stress about the house, if the kid is sleeping hold onto them for your sanity! It's always easier for the men to put them down, take it as a compliment.

Bottom line, she's sleeping.  My DS is like this about every second or third day.  I have recognized that he may be a high need baby, or as I like to call it, a cuddly baby. My tolerance and patience grew immensely when I realized he needed to be held more and when I stopped expecting him to sleep at certain points during the day.  If he just drifts in and out of sleep for six hours rather than having a solid nap, the problem is with my expectation of his nap schedule rather than his sleeping as long as he appears content and is gaining weight.

Yeah, I just wish I could get things done and have a baby, lol. I'll need to lower my H's expectations on what I can get done during the day if she keeps this up, but he'll live. My respect for my mom has grown about a million times after today, since she had 4 kids in 5 years.
