Clomid vs. Femara

I will be starting my first cycle of Femara today after 6 cycles of various dosages of Clomid. I had really bad headaches, anxiety, and emotions on Clomid. I've read that Femara doesn't have as bad side effects. What's been your experience with either or both?

I have only done Femara, and I have heard the s/e with Femara are less than Clomid as well. That being said, I still had some s/e. Mainly, slight annoying headaches, nothing that I could not tolerate. And I also had hot flashes with the Femara, mostly at night but sometimes during the day. That was all the s/e I noticed though.

I've taken both. My s/e were close to yours on Clomid, but on Femara, I feel AMAZING. Better than when I take nothing. Amazing in that I feel "normal"... hope you feel good on it, and that it works! GL!

I've done both -- didn't respond well to either. I didn't really have any bad side effects, but they did thin out my lining, so we only gave it a shot for two cycles after I started having lining issues.

I did one cycle of Clomid and had no side effects. However, it also didn't do diddly-squat for me either, so that might be why I didn't react to it badly.

I've done two cycles of Femara (currently in the 2WW of the 2nd Femara cycle) and I can't say I've had anything horrible. I was unusually tired the first few days I took it, so I had a nap or two and maybe a slight headache here and there, but not bad enough that I even had to take anything for it.

I didn't have side effects on either, but produced more follicles on Clomid.

Thanks! I noticed in your sig that you were on 500mg of Clomid...and you had no side effects?? I only went up to 150mg and the anxiety was almost unbearable.

I did 5 or 6 cycles of Clomid, and now 3 cycles of Femera. I have WAY less side effects on Femera. The main thing I have is migraines, but I'm already predispositioned to them as I've had them since I was 13, so I think it just triggers them. Clomid was awful, but I think I responded better than I have to femera.

Oh gosh, I apparently had a dumb moment/typo. I can't believe I hadn't noticed that!

I was on 100 mg with no symptoms. I know I'm really lucky for that. But the side effects I have from any form of progesterone more than makes up for it.

I thought that was a little high after only hearing of 250mg in extreme circumstances. This will also be my first cycle with progesterone supplements as well. What side effects did you have from that?

I've only ever taken Femara and I am only in my first cycle of it but I agree with pp about the headaches and being tired. I did get some nausea too, but only the days after I took a dose (I was taking it before bed). I also know that I usually get any side effects from meds anyway.

I appreciate you questioning it so I don't look dumb any longer.

The most common side effect I have is depression. It's the weirdest feeling - I *feel* depressed, but know rationally in my head that I'm not. It goes away within 24 hours of stopping the last pill. I've also had nausea, cramping, and exhaustion, but those are less prevalent and vary - one cycle one symptom will be awful, but the other two won't show at all, next cycle they all may show up moderately, etc. Like many other women, with the vaginal suppositories I have a good bit of drainage and itching. Thankfully my RE has me on oral progesterone now. The things we do for this, huh? Good luck and hopefully you won't have a problem with them!
