Just now getting around to posting--it's been a whirlwind few days!
Short version: Jackson Blake was born on April 25th at 3:19 p.m., a whopping 17 days before his due date, after just under 12 hours of labor and 14 minutes of pushing. He caught us totally off guard (we were packing the hospital bag between contractions and threw the carseat in the trunk on the way to the hospital) but we are ECSTATIC to have him here. He was also an early birthday present for me, as my birthday was yesterday.
Long version: My contractions started at about 3:45 a.m. on the 25th. I totally blew them off because I had false labor contractions all night the night before (which I complained about on Tuesday as you may recall). However, they slowly started getting closer together, until about 7:30 a.m. when they were 5-6 minutes apart, at which point we were like, "Hmmm, maybe we should finally pack that hospital bag." So we started doing that in between contractions--nothing like waiting til the last minute! Then we called my OB to see what we should do, since my 37 week appointment was scheduled for 9:00. She said my contractions weren't close enough together to go to the hospital so we should either wait or just come in for the appointment and she would check me. We told her we would be a little late since it was now 8:30 and I was still laying in bed in my PJs writhing in pain. So we finally made it down to the car at a few minutes after 9:00 with the hospital bag in tow; luckily DH had the forethought to throw the uninstalled car seat in the trunk so we at least had it with us. Well, we were in the car for about 6 seconds, not even out of the garage, when I felt my water break (and now that I know what that feels like, I feel like a moron for worrying that it had happened at 28ish weeks). Needless to say, we decided to head to the hospital rather than the OB.
So we get to the hospital at about 9:45 after dropping the dogs off at boarding (worst car ride ever), and they check me in triage and I'm already 5.5 cm dilated (I had only been 1 cm a week earlier). So of course I was freaking out that they wouldn't have time to get me my epidural. Luckily they got me up to a room ASAP and had the epidural in place by 11:00. After that, let me tell you, it was smooth sailing! I almost kissed the anesthesiologist. My nurse checked me at about noon and I was fully dilated but I wasn't feeling the urge to push yet, since I was still super numb from the epidural. At 3:00 I still wasn't feeling like pushing, but my OB and nurse decided it was time. So we got all situated, with DH holding one of my legs and getting the instructions on how to push properly, and after pushing through 5 contractions (14 minutes later), little Jackson arrived safe and sound. He was (and is) the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.
DH and I are OVER THE MOON. We love him so much and I know that I for one can't believe our take home baby is finally here. I remember my first post on this board in August...You have all been so supportive of me through this entire pregnancy and I am so lucky I found this board. I will definitely pop in from time to time and can't wait for each of you to feel what I am feeling right now.
(Sorry, no pictures--posting LO's pictures on the web makes me very nervous with all the creepos out there! 4legsRbest can tell you that I'm not lying and he's really REALLY cute :-D)
