A friend is asking me what she can do. Apparently its really bad and she lost 10 pounds already. Doctor doesn't care. I am the worst person to ask because i had NONE.
was there some kind of prescription pill that helped with that? they have tried ginger candies and all that stuff...

Re: Girls who had bad morning sickness
There are two common prescription options: Zofran and Phenergen (spelling?). There is a third one that is given less commonly, usually if the other two don't work. I'm drawing a blank on the name of that one. I'm allergic to phenergen, so I stuck with zofran. It worked wonders for me (and still does, some days in the third tri!).
If you haven't already, I would politely suggest that your friend find a new doctor! Morning sickness is normal and ok, but puking all day and losing 10lb is (at the least) borderline hypermesis. She needs to have proper care for that! Hope she feels better soon.
I had a horrible time with m/s in the first tri. Zofran and Phenergan are usually prescribed for the nausea (if she's unable to keep the first dose or two down, they are also available as a shot that the doc can give her to get her started). The phenergan has more of a sedative effect to it, so she would be sleepier using it. Zofran worked much better for me. It will constipate most people, so she should stock up on prunes and other high fiber foods or Colace to help get her through that. She should also make sure to drink PLENTY of water to combat the dehydration and constipation.
I also agree with Sally...I think your friend needs a new doc. She may need IV fluids or extra care that this doc isn't providing. Hyperemesis is not something that should be ignored and can lead to numerous complications if untreated.
You can be prescribed any of the pills posters mentioned above.
Although I hate meds and refused to take them b/c I was already on thyroid & progesterone suppositories which made my life miserable, so I didnt want any more prescriptions. My morning sickness lasted until week 23. I did have some marginal success with some home remedies.
You could try: Vitamin B-6, Sparkling water, grapefruit, ginger(the candies were too weak for me-I would try straight up ginger tea), eating small meals(she may feel like not eating at all but skipping food will really just make nausea so much worse), hydrating with something other than water(i.e something with electrolytes:coconut water, orange gatorade etc)
Oddly enough sweet tea worked for me in part due to the sugar in it. It lifted my blood sugar and made me feel less dizzy/nauseus too.
HTH!
