FMU for OPK...is that right?

I hope this isn't a dumb question....I haven't done OPKs in a few years but decided to start for this cycle.  I bought the Walgreens brand strips and I was surprised that the instructions said to use FMU?  I always thought it was better to test in the afternoons for the LH surge.  So I wanted to get your thoughts...do I follow the instructions because surely someone knowledgeable wrote them (but maybe not) or do I test in the afternoons like other OPKs suggest...or do I test twice a day (morning and afternoon) to be doubly sure...

I know they typically say early afternoon urine, but I have had cycles that I only got a positive with my FMU.

I've always heard to not use FMU with an OPK and just go for the afternoon. They say LH is synthesized in the morning so it doesn't show up until afternoon.

That being said I always test 3 times a day when I get close to O and I start with FMU, then around 2 pm and again around 8. I almost always get my first + with FMU. So maybe my internal clock is out of whack!

I have only gotten positives with afternoon urine. So if you are just starting, maybe do twice a day until you know best when your LH surge comes.

I've found it's best to use the cheapies, then if you think it might be positive confirm with a digital. Good luck!

Thanks ladies...I think I'll give it good twice a day try..  Although, my bladder is already the size of pea so trying to drink lots of water everyday and holding it for four hours might be tricky!...

I'm doing an experiment right now on this. I've never bothered with opks before b/c I can't hold it and I drink a lot of water. I believe I got a positive yesterday with fmu and this morning, although since I'm new, I'm going to see if I get a closer one. But the line looked as dark. I tried taking one yesterday late afternoon but it was def. negative. I don't think I held it long enough. Will try again this evening. I may be someone who just has to use them in the a.m. and get what I get. So I'd say try twice/day to see what works for you?

I always tested in the afternoon (now I'm being monitored every other day by my RE and using a trigger injection, so they are pointless for me). My surge always lasted at least 2 days, so I wouldn't have had a problem getting a positive no matter what time of day I took them. Some women have shorter surges though that may not even last 24 hours - if this is the case for you, you'll probably want to test 2-3 times a day (Wondfo or Early-Pregnancy-Tests.com are cheap and reliable). If you don't know about your surge yet, testing frequently is probably the best course of action until you learn more about your body.
