"Granny" Panties and Pads--Recommendations

I know this is a crazy item to worry/think about....but what "granny" panties is recommended or that you brought for after delivery and what pads do you recommend (I know heavy flow--but what brand).

I brought a pack of Hanes low cut briefs from Target this weekend but not sure if they are really needed and if they will be confortable. Should I just wear my old panties instead (ones that I don't care to get damaged)?

I haven't bought pads in over 15 years. What is a good brand?

Thanks all! =)

  • I heard alot of good reviews of the ALWAYS infinity overnight pads from 2nd time moms on the boards so I bought a large box of those. I think I need to pick up some big cheap panties, lol

  • I wore Hanes bikini briefs after DD, because I didn't care if they got ruined. Did the se this time. If you have a section, they might be uncomfortable across the incision. That's they only time I'd say get granny panties. As far as pads, Maxis for the first 7-10 days (less if you BF more if you FF), then regular pads work fine. I used peripacks the whole first week. My heavy bleeding was only 3 days, then 4 of a medium period type bleeding, then it was light for the rest of the time.
  • I think the overnight pads are good. I bought low cut briefs from Target this time and last time around. I bought the silky/stretchy kind, they are 5 for $20 or something like that but all in black. It worked out last time because they are comfy and since they were black they didn't get ruined.

  • I got the gillian & omalley maternity underwear, they are so comfortable.. I also recommend Always overnights for pads :)

  • I only need granny panties because of the c/s incision... Otherwise I'd be wearing my regular bikini cut undies.  I like Always brand pads.

  • Always Infinity Overnight Pads, they work great!  I think low cut will work with vaginal, I would recommend up a size from normal because of the pad and everything being sore you do not want anything tight.

  • Also would buy some thiner pads, I got the orange ones I think they are extra long for med/heavy flow... the overnight ones are great but a little bulky when up and doing things.

These are awesome.  Super absorbant and not big/bulky.  My hospital supplies me with the oversized mesh grannie panties that I'll wear for a while.  I wore them after DS it was helpful because they were big enough to wear pads between my legs and to hold the gauze/pads over my incision.

    It's a hot look.

  • I wear Hanes bikini cut my whole pregnancy up a size since my hips spread I just keep wearing those after baby is born. I recommend always infinity, overnight, heavy, and regular flow.  I got a pack of each for me the heavy are plenty after the first few days and then after a week or so the regular are good furring the day.

  • I went with the stunning mesh and ginormous hospital pads look while in the hospital. Also, always tried to sit on the hospital piddle pad because I think I had a lovely accident or two.

By the time I was discharged, the majority of the ridiculousness was over and I just could get away with an overnight pad. I'm sure that it varies by person though.

  • According to my H, I wear granny panties all the time - lol.  I bought some of my regular underwear in a size bigger to wear during pregnancy, so I think I'll just use those as my PP underwear.  I don't care if they get wrecked and I could really use some new ones once I'm all healed up.

I've heard lots of good reviews about Always pads so I think I'll go with them.  It's kind of a shot in the dark for me since I haven't bought or used pads since Junior High.

  • During our childbirth class, the instructor showed us what the mesh panties & hospital pads looked like. Neither DH or I had seen them before. He just looked at me & said, "I'm sorry." Lol! I'll probably buy a couple different types of underwear just because I don't know what I'll be comfortable in. And I'll have to buy some baggier pants b/c all of mine are tight in that area!
  • I know this might be an upsetting option... but I've received advice from TWO cosmopolitan, dedicated thong-wearing moms to go get TENA adult underwear/ diapers for the week after delivery.  I'm still trying to figure out whether I can go through with that, but they both said I wouldn't be sorry.
  • I would wear all my old underwear and then throw them out afterwards.  For pads, I like the Kotex brand for after delivery because they're cotton with no mesh top (like Always).  PP, you bleed lots of 'chunks' and I found it kind of gross with the Always (or any brand with a mesh top) that the chunks would just sit on top.
