Cloth Diapering

What's your dream washer/dryer?

We are in the market for a washer/dryer upgrade. The set we have came with the house and we've just been having lots of issues. So we are shopping this afternoon! I'm more excited than anyone should be about laundry... So just wanted some opinions! If you were getting new w/d combo, what would you choose? Is FL or TL better for diaper laundry? I've never bought these appliances before so I'm kind of clueless.

  • No specific recommendation, but I'd definitely prefer a TL for diaper laundry.

  • I am on a never ending battle with my FL.  Get a cheap TL, not HE if you plan to CD.  If I had $1000 to spend on a washer, I'd spend $300 and get a cheapie, put the $700 in a bank.  When I was done CD in a few years I'd craigslist my cheapie and go buy a new one.

    Not exaggerating.

  • Top Loaders are DEFINITELY easier for CDing.  I hear great things about the Whirlpool Cabrio, and HE TL.

I personally have a king capacity GE washer and dryer, and love it.  The only thing it doesn't have that I wish was the ability to do rinses in something other than cold, but it doesn't really bother me.

  • I'm probably the only person on this board who believes my front loader gets my diapers cleaner.  Especially compared to my mom's 10yo top loader.  I have a prewash option, warm or cold rinse, extra rinse in cycle, no spin option, and if I set my initial quick wash to no spin, I get more than enough water in the regular wash cycle.  I've had less than 10 stains I've had to sun in almost 11 months of use.  My diapers just don't have stains.

If you get a front loader make sure of the following:  Options for a warm rinse, quick wash and heavy duty wash option, No spin, and an extra rinse in the wash load option is very handy
