Freezing question

I have an appointment with my RE tomorrow to do another SHG (just to make sure everything's ok in there before my cycle), and to talk about the cycle. Here is the thing - I posted about this before - only 35 percent of couples using DE at my clinic get frosties, which I think is ridiculously low. They say it's because their freezing standards are very high. But it still seems weird to me.

This is our third DE cycle and our last fresh cycle. I really don't want any embies that have any chance of becoming a baby to be thrown in the trash. But I know that I can't make them change their standards, so I was just going to ask them to freeze everything, the way they would for people who with religious reasons, etc. And this way I don't have to seem like I'm criticizing their freezing policies. Maybe that is a crazy request and I'm not sure how my RE will take it. What do you think?

Anyway, my real question is, for cryopreservation, is it usually one price no matter how many embies you have, or it is per embryo? I have an email in to the billing person but I thought I might get quicker responses here.

At my clinic, only 20% of couples have one embie to freeze based on the standards they set for freezing. Their stats have similar success rates to fresh cycles. So, for me 35% seems like a good number.

We actually had two embies to freeze, which my RE said isn't super common at their clinic, and there was one flat rate for freezing. They were frozen separately.

I think it's a great plan to ask them to freeze all of them. I'm not sure on pricing... we get a year "free" basically, and then any remaining embies are shipped to a company and you pay a fee to the company. That is a flat fee as far as I can tell. However, I don't know if your plan opens up an extra fee or not. We are definitely not paying by the embryo, though.

I think the difference is that my clinic's stat refers only to DE cycles (all eggs coming from a young healthy donor), which should have a higher rate than normal IVF cycles.

I think it's always worth asking. Would you transfer some of the lesser quality embryos so that they would never go through the freeze/thaw? It could be a way of maximizing their potential since the higher quality blasts are likely to thaw well. Would you do CGH on them?

At my clinic, there is one price for up to 10 embies and then it is more if there are more than 10.

Same for my clinic, but we've never had any meet the criteria to freeze.

My clinic does do one price for the freeze and then you pay to thaw for each cycle.

I would ask about freezing everything. They are having a hard time confirming that they can define "good" and "bad" quality by visuals alone anyway so by keeping everything, you will eliminate that uncertainty. Good Luck!!

for my clinic it was one payment no matter how many embies.

if we had some from fresh cycle 1 it would be one fee and then some from the next cycle, it would be another fee. but no matter how many per cycle it would be 1 fee.
