So I know our bodies "cleanse" themselves when labor is imminent, the bowels specifically...and lately I've been wondering how the heck can all that be coming out of me even after having just gone potty about an hour earlier. With that said, no matter how much cleansing my body does, I'm still planning on using an enema.
My question: Has anyone used an enema before labor & delivery and if so, what timeframe did you use to determine when it was time to pump your bunghole with an enema? TIA ladies and sorry for the TMI.
Re: TMI (sorry)...Pooping and enema
I'm also curious as to why you'd want to do an enema. I have had to once due to severe constipation (per dr.'s recommendation). I also had discomfort/cramping/diarrhea throughout the afternoon afterward and had to go into the hospital for fluids bc I got dehydrated.
They definitely have their place, but if you are already going to the bathroom fairly normally, I would not do one.
ETA: I was nervous about going while in labor as well, but since I had been pretty regular with my first, it never wound up happening.
I don't want to talk you out of anything, but I just wanted to chime in that if it's for that reason (afraid of going #2 during delivery) that is honestly the last thing on your mind.
I'll be honest with you...it happened with me. And it was fine. The nurses were SO incredibly discreet about it. I didn't even know it happened until my husband told me afterwards. I don't know any actual statistics, but I'm sure it's got to happen the major majority of the time...and really, you won't even care at that point! You are SO buys focusing and concentrating on pushing that baby out that truly, nothing else matters.
This. Never mind the fact that getting through contractions takes so much concentration and willpower that I have no clue why you would want to subject yourself to an enema. Honestly, you won't care of you have a BM during the delivery..the doctors and nurses have seen it all -trust me.
Not every woman poops during labor and even if you are one who does, the nurses sweep away mess quickly (my water broke with #1 while I was laboring and they had it cleaned up and new pads down in a rush). You probably won't even notice in the moment.
