Unique and fun 3rd birthday ideas?

I don't necessary plan to do a full theme, but maybe just coorrdinate my invites with a cake. DD will be 3 in 5 short weeks and I'd like to get working on her invitation, but I still haven't decided what type of cake to do. What themes or decorations are you all doing for your summer baby's birthday?

For her 1st we did Dr. Suess and for her 2nd we did Cookie Monster. I asked her what she wanted and she said "Elmo and all the other elmo people" but I'd rather not do another sesame street type theme, in fact, I'd like to stay away from characters if I could. (Besides, she isn't even really into elmo, I think she just said this because right after her Cookie Monster party we went to another kids party which was all Sesame Street).

Thanks ladies!

  • This year we are doing Hello Kitty. (In one week...eep!) If we didn't do HK it would be Rapunzel thats just two things she's big on right now. Last year was Minnie Mouse and 1st was Princesses. You said you wanna stay away from charachters though. I like the underwater ideas. I've seen some cute ladybug or fairy parties. Also I love the pink and black zebra themes. Course with that you could take any colours you (and DD) like and do so much!

  • I'm sure I'll be doing a Tangled theme for DD's 3 year birthday.  She loves that movie.

For DD2's first birthday (I'm already planning it on PinterestEmbarrassed) I'm doing a ruffles and roses tea party.  I'll use muted purples, pinks and gold.

  • I've been debating about what to do, too.  DD is very into Mickey Mouse right now, so I'm considering that.  She also really likes cowgirl stuff, so I was thinking maybe a cute cowgirl theme.

I'm also thinking about an art theme - there are a lot of ideas out there for that. I found a lot on pinterest.

  • Last week I tried finger painting with pudding. My little one loved it! He ate it a good part of the time but it was still a success. I just made 2 packets of pudding and put food coloring in separate bowls of them. It could be a fun activity
  • we are doing a dora princess party for my girls in a month...for activites I am going to throw a bunch or dora favors in the sandbox and let them dig for treasure...and we will have a cardboard castle for everyone to color and play with...and of course some balls and bubbles (dora explorer stars)...fingers crossed its a nice day....there will also be princess party hats and magic wands....
  • My friend is doing a ladybug theme-ish party for her daughter, which I thought was cute:) We will be doing a Curious George party for DS in June...although he is now obsessed with CARS and Thomas the Train (of course...AFTER I started buying things:)). I don't want to go too themey/cheesy with it either...But if you go on pinterest or just google images/ideas for 3rd birthdays, there are a ton of unique and classy ideas for a party. GL!
  • we did an icecream theme party for my DD 2nd birthday.  we had an icecream bar with ALL of the toppings and let them make their own sundaes.  We also had an icecream pinata. It was fun and sooo much fun to prepare for too.  I also like the candy themed parties, google it and get inspired!
