get 3 hour glucose results tomorrow and nervous

I have been upset and nervous since I found out that i did not pass my 1 hr glucose test.  prior to pregnancy i never had (that I know of) HIGH blood sugar, but it was always around 98 - which I consider high enough, given how close it is to 100.  anyway, when my 1 hour results came back at 169 I got really nervous ... in order to pass the fasting glucose level, mine will have to have come back lower than what it usually does (i think the cutoff is 95?) and my one hour will have to be in the same ballpark as my last one hour (only this test was with twice as much sugar).. I guess I am so concerned bc i am wondering now if my blood sugar has been high the whole time... i know something like that is critical in the first 3 months of a pregnancy -

- does anyone know if the Dr would have picked up on high (or borderline high ) blood sugar earlier in my pregnancy  - with the other blood tests, urine, etc that they did?

- anyone have a similar experience?

i know its not good for me to be worked up like this... thanks in advance for any thoughts..

Re: get 3 hour glucose results tomorrow and nervous

  • After I failed the 3 hour and was diagnosed with Gestational Diabletes, my doctor ordered a blood test that checked my A1C levels for the last three months. I don't know the results yet as I have my appointment tomorrow. I, too, was worried that I had undiagnosed diabetes even before my pregnancy because I failed the 3 hour so miserably. But so far, my blood sugar numbers have been really good with just diet control, no insulin, and my doctor told me that they most likely would be higher now if I had diabetes all along. I know it's scary, but just keep in mind that if it turns out that you do have GD, there is so much done to control it and so much monitoring of the baby that more than likely there will be a healthy outcome for you and your baby. In fact, my doctor said that provided my blood sugar levels stay in control, they treat GD pregnancies as normal pregnancies, meaning they won't induce unless there is large birth weight or fetal distress. I do have to start going in every week starting in mid-May (I'm 26 weeks now) for non-stress tests and extra ultrasounds. Good luck to you- I have heard that a lot of people who fail the one hour pass the three hour. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I found out about my GD at 21 weeks so I have a little experience with it by now. And really, the waiting for the results was the most nerve-wracking part, so I know how you feel.

  • Thank you for your message! ( I can't figure out how to message you - to personally thank you!) I really appreciate your response and I wish you the best in your appointment tomorrow.  Its such great news to hear that you have been able to control things so well with diet control - I am sure that makes you feel much better, knowing how well you are taking care of yourself and your baby.
  • Good luck to both of you! I too just failed my 1hr (by a lot) and will be taking the 3 hr this week. This post makes me feel a little less frantic. Happy, healthy pregnancies to you both!
