Toddlers: 24 Months+

2yr old wont eat and more

while I am certain I have been told nearly a hundred time that no two yr old will let themselves starve I am concerned. My DD2 (which is child #3) has always been little. She weighed 6.2lbs at birth and now @ 32 months old she barely weighs 20lbs. She is about the same height as kids her age but she is tiny. he baby sister who is 16months has passed her up in clothes. She will rarely eat no matter what I offer. I have tried everything and nothing anyone has suggested has worked. She is also very pale in comparison to my other kids. she is clumsy, She brusies extremely easily (her carseat even leaves dark bruises in her back if we are in the car more than 45min-1hr, and I had to get extra padding for her bed because her mattress was bruising her. I am just not sure what to do at this point, kinda hoping someone has a similar experience. She has been tested for several things such as anemia, eating disorders, etc, and passes with flying colors. And although I am not sure it has anything to do with it she seems to have a kinda weak immune system. If she gets a fever of anything over 99.5 she turns white as a ghost, can barely stand let alone stay awake, and it is just really scary.  AAny thoughts or suggestions or experiences would be greatly accepted. Re: 2yr old wont eat and more

  • I'm just wondering if you've tried things that most kids love:  chocolate milk, ice cream or shakes, full fat yogurt, mac and cheese with lots of cheese, cookies.  If she eats only a little bit, then pick the most calorie dense foods for her.

The foods are not ideal to eat every day for most people,  but at this point, I think it's most important to just get her to eat more calories, so do whatever works.   Eating some junky food is better than not eating at all. It sounds like she really needs the calories.

It must be very stressful ; hang in there.  I hope it gets better

  • My daughter has been struggling with growth & medical issues her whole life.

I would start enlisting the help of some specialists - an endocrinologist and ped GI to start. Maybe even an immunologist. It sounds like there is more going on that just picky eating.

I agree with this. With other factors such as bruising from non-typical sources and the difficulty with weight gain, I think the doctors should take a close look and make some referrals to figure out what's going on with your DD. Good luck- I hope you get some answers soon!
