Prefolds and smell?

So we use the prefolds with the red line and thirsties covers. My LO is 8 weeks. very time she pees there is a strong pee smell, usually if it's after 2-3 hours. When she just pees, it smells just fine. Do I have to strip them or is this normal?

 Also, since she's pretty young still, these prefolds are huge on her. Do the diapers get more proportion to their size as they get older?

    I think it's just a really strong pee smell, sometimes it gets back you can smell it on her clothes too. I use Allen's detergent and have a front loader, so that might be the problem.

    My friend had many issues with her front loader getting CDs clean. See if there is a way to do extra rinses or add more hot water to rinse well. You could also sun them once a week to santize them a bit, they always smell fresher then.
