My office automatically does the 3 hour test and you have to stay at the office the whole time. They said you can do it on the 24w visit or 28w visit. Since it has to be early morning and 3 hours I am doing 28w since I will be on summer vacation (I'm a teacher.) She also said with someone with my health consciousness it wouldn't really show up until later, anyway.
I did do the 1hr at 13 weeks as well, thought. DS was 2 wks early and big and I failed the 1hr with him but passed the 3 hr, so ob wanted to make sure. I passed so hoping I do again.

I had mine early - at my 18 week appointment since I had GD with DD. They gave me the drink in the office and I had to stay there for the entire hour. I failed miserably and opted out of the 3 hour.

And just to add. GD is most likely caused by hormones and your placenta. It doesn't matter how healthy you are, about 18% of pregnancies develop GD. You can't get GD by eating too many sweets and craving sweets is not a symptom. Likewise, you can not prevent GD by eating low carb and cutting out sweets. Diet and exercise can help control GD, but not prevent it.
FWIW, I run marathons and eat clean and still developed it with DD and now this pregnancy.

Not necessarily. My office (and my OB last time as well) gives you the drink in the office, then you wait the hour and do the bloodwork.
