Another bday ? Sorry

First off should you always send out written thank yous after the party? I had plans on having DD send out (with my help obviously) thank yous after her party. Especially for my family in the US as a special thank you because it means a lot to me all they do for her/us and I know they miss her, we miss them too. The second question is my brother in US is sending something for her. Do I email him once its here to let him know its arived and thank him and then aafter party send the card or just send card after party? Oh and in the card should I say thanks for x dd loves it or more as if she's writing it...thanks for x I love it? tia sorry if its silly or been asked before
