Looking for some hope (33 weeker)

My niece was born at 33 weeks today. The drs think she was transfusing blood back to my sister. Her hemoglobin is at 2 and her pH is acidic. They have done a transfusion, but it is not working. Has anyone had a similar situation?

I was only able to talk to my sister for like 5 min, and I asked if her hospital had a level 3 NICU or if there was a sepcialist she could she, but she is so overwhelmed she just kept saying I don't know, I don't know. I want to help her as best I can, from a thousand miles away...

My son was born at 28 weeks and we were really lucky that he didn't have too many blood transfusions (maybe 4-5? I don't really remember)... but it is VERY common for preemies to need transfusions.

My son born at 31weeks never had to get a transfusion, but I can imagine how scary that would be. After 44days in the nicu, he is doing well at home. T&P to your family.

just wanted to mention that the baby must be in a level 3 nicu because blood transfusions would not be dealt with in a level 1 or 2 nursery. wishing your sister and her family the best...

I don't have any experience with transfusions, but I just wanted to say that I am sending lots of thoughts and prayers. Hang in there and be strong for your sister! Hugs.

My daughter was born at 33w3d and spent 12 days in the NICU. She didn't need any transfusions, but she has been home since April 6 and is doing great. Good luck to you and your family.
