What does ammonia burn look like?

I posted earlier about my prefolds having a strong pee smell. Now my LO's whole diaper area is getting slightly red, no rash. Just wondering if its starting of ammonia burn/diaper rash or what. So what does ammonia burn usually look like? ThANKS.

    That's what our first stages of ammonia burn look like.  I usually wipe him down well and let him dry off.  

    We struggle with Gro-Via's holding on to ammonia and you'll see that his entire bum is red in the shape of the insert.

    Pretty much just red, not rashy exactly but if you continue long enough it'll get bumpy/rashy too sometimes.  If you don't have hard water, a prerinse with 1/4 c baking soda and a final rinse with 1/2 c vinegar usually will clear this up.

    I've been battling ammonia for a while and for us it starts with just red no rash but if left untreated you can get even get blisters and for us the skin gets very dry and even peels once it's healing.
