poor baby spitting up blood

My DD has a VERY strong suck, with a little mouth, plus my bigger nipples = bleeding nipples.  They actually look like they are getting better, but every now and then they bleed more if we don't get the latch just right.  To get her off I have to literally pry her jaw open with my finger cuz she sucks/bites so hard, and then relatch.  I just checked on her while she was napping and fussing a little and she urped up what looked like almost pure blood.  she has been urping up bloody milk, but this one looked like just blood.  That can not feel good to digest Sad

    I remember the first time DD did that and it scared me until I realized it was my blood from my nipples. Have you worked with an LC to help correct the latch? It took a while for us to get it together.

     Funny thing is...I am an LC.  How ironic.

    LOL!  My LLL leader had her fourth baby in December. She had no issues with the first three but she still needed an outside perspective with number 4. Said it was a very humbling experience for her.

    It's hard to see what you are doing and an outside perspective is helpful. Doctors still need doctors. LCs still need other LCs.

    How much blood was it? A drop or two of blood in milk will obviously make it turn pink, but it seems like it would take more than blood from a cracked nipple to make her spit up something that looked like only blood. It might be something to mention to her pediatrician. As a LC you very well may have seen it in healthy baby's before, but I would probably make a phone call at that point.
