S/O: refrigerate after opening

I have been buying the same maple syrup (Rodenberry's original) forever. I just noticed within the last 6 months that it says to refrigerate after opening. I don't because I don't like cold syrup and I have been eating it for this long- it can't hurt us, right?

Do you refrigerate  your syrup? Am I being stupid to not follow wit instructions?

  • I'm like you. I don't like cold syrup and I don't keep it in the fridge b/c of that (although my DH keeps his in the fridgen he likes a diff kind). I haven't died yet.

  • I've never once put syrup in the fridge. Neither did my parents when we were growing up. I always view it as the one item that didn't need to.

  • Growing up my mom would put the syrup in the refrigerator. I don't put my syrup in the refrigerator because I don't want to eat cold syrup.

It takes like 10 seconds in the microwave to warm it up.

Or it takes 0 seconds to warm it up if you dont chill it. Plus, I would think reheating the bottle of syrup over and over would cause more bacteria to grow than leaving it at room temp.

  • Maybe they just stuck it on to cover their butts, for some strange reason. I'm not sure. I wouldn't put it in the fridge- I don't put mine in.

  • All I know is that my dad is weird about this... he doesn't like cold salad dressing, so he doesn't refrigerate THAT after opening. Which I KNOW is supposed to be refrigerated. And he's never been sick. I'm not recommending that, just point out that sometimes people are overzealous about refrigeration. I DO refrigerate salad dressing, but there are some things that others refrigerate like I don't, like ketchup and peanut butter. (I don't understand how ANYONE could refrigerate PB by the way, wouldn't it be rock hard?!) If it smells weird, or it gets moldy (I've seen moldy syrup, and it's gross) - then definitely skip it, haha. But if you've been fine for years... I wouldn't worry about it
