Wife's Rib's and Itchy All Over.

My wife is feeling some moderate pain in her lower ribs the last two days.  I think it is her uterus starting to creep up higher in her abdomen.  She is propped up in bed with her body pillow and some wedge she got to place under her belly while she sleeps on her side.  My poor honey....

Any ideas on that????  Suggestions????

She is also itchy all over the place....

My wife, my prego wife.  I feel for her.

And is there a reason why you are more worried about this than she is? She isn't capable of joining TB and asking this question and/or googling her own problems?

Flame if you must.. it just seems odd?

And is there a reason that you're getting all unnecessarily snarky on a board on which you do not belong?  He asked a legitimate question.

OP -  I'm not really sure about the ribs, but my stomach has definitely been itchy on and off.  I'm guessing it's from the stretching.  I just keep trying to keep it moisturized.  Hope she feels better!

  • He's welcome to be here too. I think it is sweet. I vote for a warm shower tomorrow and some new lotion. In addition to those mentioned above and the several sold at BRU and other maternity places, Aveeno baby lotion is thick and feels good and Cetaphil cream is too. Our ped has exzema too and recommended them for ds. I use them too when I'm feeling dry or itchy. GL! (and ignore the snarky)

  • My left rib gets a twitch and sometimes pain - I asked my OB the other day and she said that it's my abdominal muscles, which are starting to bow around the middle, and the way they get stretched around at the top (they connect up at the ribs) can cause muscle spasms and pain. Also, if the pain is radiating around the ribs, it can be rib muscles that are getting stretched out (as the ribs expand). All of which is totally normal, though annoying!

Sorry I can't hold my tongue. While I may not necessary agree with Jessuh (even though I do find the fact a husband posts here as odd), she is not a beeotch. Also, to those that claim she doesn't belong here...grow up. This isn't Oct. 2011 moms coming to take over our board. If you recall, Jessuh was a member of our board and unfortunately suffered her second loss. She was also very close to a lot of members of this board, so it's understandable why she lurks. So telling her she "doesn't belong" is not only untrue but really heartless.

MomiJerz - this isn't all directed at you, but to PPs so I apologize for only quoting you.

  • I've had a lot of luck with the 100% Shea butter I've been using. I usually put it on once a day, after my shower, and I typically don't get itchy. I would pick something organic, and definitely one that only has Shea butter as the ingredient. My giant container was less than $10 from drugstore.com.

  • Skin stretching = itchy skin  cocoa butter works best for me.

Im achy all over too, think things are just moving around. Rib cages can get wider. I see the chiropractor, that helps a lot!! But you have to go a few times a week (about 2-3) to feel lengthy relief.

  • I think we need to just quit being snarky in general. My God, why is it necessary to snark at someone for a simple question ? Who cares why he's here and his wife is not, he is trying to help her by picking our brains and I think that is fantastic ! MH reads every week what is going on with my body, I do not. Then when I get a symptom, bleeding gums, uber snotty nose, etc, he tells me it's normal. It's nice for him to be involved in what is going on in my body.

Now Mr nice DH, to answer your question. Her skin is going to get itchy the more it stretches, belly and chest. A good lotion, ie Palmers, Aveeno, etc will help a great deal with that. As far as her ribs, as long as the pain isn't severe, I wouldn't worry about it. I get weird random twitches in my ribs all the time and pains as well. My OB said it was likely caused by stretching muscles and muscle spasms. Has her chest area grown a great deal ? Have her go look at maternity bras (if she's larger chested, because you can't find an F cup at Victoria Secret) or just have her go get fitted for new bras in general if she hasn't already. I found that helped the aches and pains in my ribs and upper back a great deal.

Good luck and let us know if any of this helps.

  • I decided when I first began posting here that I would ignore the types of comments that were along the lines of the first response I got to my OP last night.  If I want that kind of treatment I can wake up my own wife and deal with her crap.  Why take it from some other dude's wife/GF??  I have my own for that!  I will continue to say if you do not want to interact with me....don't.  Really not that hard to ignore a thread if you do not want to participate, imo.  Why my wife doesn't post here has nothing to do with the things that I post here, and is really no one's business but her's.  I do not come here often because between work and home/pregnant wife duties I get all of about 3 hours to myself.  Of course, I really do not have to explain myself to anyone here because I have never once done anything inappropriate here.  Some of you get that, and other's, well, I don't really care anyway.

So, I put the cocoa butter lotion by the bed and I will be rubbing it on her back and belly at night from no on.  I rub her belly everynight anyway, so no big deal.  The rib thing was better this morning.  I am not too concerned about it, but it was something that I had not run across in all my reading on pregnancy, so I was just curious if this was something any of you had run across in that area.  I think using her wedge (whatever it is) kept her in a sleeping position that took a lot of pressure off that area.

Thanks for the responses that were meaningful, and to all of those who are ruffled by my presence here, geezzz. I am sure you can find something of more worth in your own lives to whine about, perhaps?

    meegan, good luck with that.

And momijerz, while I think Jessuh was being a bit harsh, so were you.

    Jessuh, I miss you love.

OP, if you came around more than once every 3 months, I might take you seriously, but until you become a regular member of the board, I'm going to stick with my "it's creepy" analysis of your random participation here.

To this I would say get your facts straight.  I was just here two weeks ago with a post about our 3D ultrasound, and finding out we are having a boy (Jacob.  I love saying my boys name!!)  Not that it matters, but you have this standard you want me to follow to "take me seriously", so at least get your facts straight about the rate that I come here.

I think this is exactly what it is!  Thanks!  She feels a lot better this morning, but last night it looked really painful to me, and I am so glad I do not have to go through this.  Any man who says he wishes he could experience this is full of crap!!

    image

  • I agree with the PP that recommended cocoa butter & also that the rib pain is most likely the rib cage stretching. There's also a muscle straight down your abdomen - I forget what's it's called - but it basically separates to make room for baby- fun!

Another thought about the itchy skin is that if her skin is dry in general, she may not be drinking enough water - so keep her hydrated!

And FWIW, I don't find it odd that you're posting here. You're not the first guy to post on the boards, and I'm sure you won't be the last.

I will tell Megan about this Palmers. I see you have a Tiger's logo. I miss my boy Prince sooooooooo much. He was our favorite player while he was here in Milwaukee. I refuse to wear his jersey at Miller Park anymore:-( Have you seen his kids yet? They are the most awesome boys EVER!!! His wife is really nice too. They are just a real laid back family, and Prince is a GREAT dad.

God, I miss him! I will always wish him the best. You are really lucky to be able to watch him everyday....he is that good!

  • All I have to say...I wish my DH was this into my pg!! I think he read like 1/2 of the book I bought him with our first pg (and it was a funny one, not long and boring!)

But if he spent time on TB trying to figure me out and how to make my life easier, I would NOT complain!

He tries to be attentive and all, but I commend you LadyJenna for going above and beyond!

The doctor brought the water thing up last visit.  She claims she is drinking up the water at work during the day, but at night I think she slacks on it.  I get on her about it, but sometimes I lose that battle.

I have noticed, pregnant women are even more set in their ways!!!  That scares us husbands at times, and we tend to pick our battles more carefully as a result.  I told her just the other day that I feel like I constantly am putting her out, like a fire, with the level of emotions that she has right now.

Name calling makes you just as bitchy as me and that's all I'll say to you, momijerz.... I never said his question wasn't legitimate or that he wasn't allowed to post here. I just think it's odd. And thanks, Rora, for having my back. I'm well aware I don't "belong" here but I can post wherever I please. I honestly don't think I said anything too over the top. Oh well.

Lol yes but you deserved the bitchness directed at you ... As for me yes I can be a beeotch too. But the husband you directed your comment at didn't deserve your bitchness ...

This! I think it's awesome that you care enough for your wife to ask ?? I've been super itchy as well but I have found that the more lotion( I use bio-oil) I use, the better I feel.
