I don't understand the baby matinees

Have any of you tried this yet? It would be a total joke with Mason. What do you do with the babies? Sit them down with a bucket of popcorn? Mason would be rolling all over the sticky floors. He would have me help him walk down the aisles. It would be ridiculous. I can't see older babies being any easier, and it wouldn't have worked for me when Mason was young because he was The Anti-napper!

What do you think? Impossible or great idea?

BTW, I don't even really like movies or TV very much. I have probably been to the movie theater 5 times in the last 3 years.

I assume it is probably more to meet other moms and babies than to actually watch the movie. I'd go if there was one within 100 miles of me. I don't think the babies would sit still or be quite at all, but it is probably more just for fun.

I thought about going to one a few months ago. But now that DD is mobile, there is no way that it would work.

jk and I never went so I couldn't say. I'd hate to watch bits and pieces of a movie I actually want to watch though.. But meeting new moms would be fun.

My friend went to one recently and she said it was great, but I think her daughter napped during the movie. I'm sure it would have been a different experience if she had a whiny, squirming mess on her hands.

There is a theatre near me that does this every Tuesday, but I have no desire to try it. I don't want to pay to watch pieces of a movie and hold my baby for 2 hours.

We have them here and I have gone once when DS was quite young (before Christmas so around 4 months I guess) and he slept / ate / stared at the screen. I could NEVER take him now. However, being a mommy matinee, there were tons of moms up walking around, rocking, swaying etc. it was pretty cool. They left the lights dim and had a change table and stroller parking set up outside of the theatre. It was more just a fun day out with a friend... still need to re-watch Breaking Dawn Part I though!

Ive wondered the same thing. My kids don't sleep. I don't see it being enjoyable hearing Timmy say "Mick" asking to Mickey Mouse 100 times in 10 minutes or "home" in between the Micks lol

Plus I'd rather be outside if I can. I guess it's good for winter months maybe? Even then not going to work with my 2 kids.

I think it's more for new babies that you can babywear and they sleep. I would never be able to take Evan to the movies., then or now. He's a whacko.

My DD won't sleep either but she LOVES watching the movie. It's great. They set up a changing table, people nurse, kids make noise, and the parents get to watch at least a percentage of the movie

We have them at our theater every 2 weeks. I've taken Alexa once, a month or 2 ago. It went alright. It would've been easy when she was younger. Now that she's mobile it's a little tough but they have swings, jumperoos, toys, the lights are dimmed not off, the sound is lower, there's change tables set up, bottle warmers. It's very baby friendly. We're going next week with our mommy group. Not sure how it'll go this time since she's even more mobile. I think I'll get there early so I can claim a jumperoo lol

I went to a couple last summer with DS with the goal of meeting some moms. But everyone was quiet before, during and after, and most people were already with a friend. I'm way too shy to strike up a conversation under that situation, so I met no one. DS was great though, and even though they weren't movies I would ever have gone to on my own, I think it was a good experience.
