7-10 day growth spurt - how long will this last?!

Hi -

My daughter is currently 10 days old.  Starting yesterday morning she has been extremely fussy and is eating like CRAZY!  She cluster fed last night (for the first time) from 4pm - 9pm....thank goodness she slept well during the night hours (3.5 hrs in between feedings)!  Now this morning she is fussing again for no apparent reason AND is cluster feeding - eating on average about every 40 min for only 5-10 min at a time.  I am exhausted!  And sad that my baby seems to be discontent:(.....a couple days ago she was the happiest baby around (only cried when she needed to eat which was about every 2-2.5 hrs).  How long might this "growth spurt" stage last?  Anyone else have experience with the standard 7-10 days old growth spurt and have some advice for me.  Thank you in advance for any help!

  • Growth spurts can last a few days, sometimes a bit longer. They go through a few major growth spurts the first 3 months or so. Just hang in there and nurse, nurse, nurse. Baby is building your supply, especially in the first 6 weeks. Just have lots of water and snacks on hand and catch up on some tv or movies while LO cluster feeds.

  • I am no help as my son at that age was starting his server reflux. But I did want to say hang in there. Hugs
  • Sorry to say, but my LO had his growth spurt for about a week from about 11 days old until 18 days or so.  It was hell while it lasted.  Clusterfeeding from 6-10 pm, then up every 1 1/2 hours, then Clusterfeeding again in the morning.  There were a couple nights I thought I would lose it completely.  Just try and have YH take a feeding or two.  And sleep when you can!  Good luck!!!  And this too will pass.
  • In general they seem to last 3-4 days in this house, which is long enough with DD freaking out that I'm holding/feeding the baby 24/7! Hang in there.
