We remove our shoes. It is more about keeping the floors clean, than anything else. I am not a super germaphobe, but with three kids, two of whom play outside in the yard, water the garden, and otherwise attempt to bring in the outdoors, it is necessary!
I take my shoes off at the door, but it's more because I don't feel comfortable wearing shoes in a house. However, I don't care if DH wears his around though he usually doesn't.

This, we don't make our guest take their shoes off either, many are wearing combat boots so it's a pain in the butt. When others come over and see shoes by the door the usually choose to take theirs off. I do like keeping the desert sand out but as for germs, we have a dog and a cat so germs are here.
I am weird, I don't really mind shoes in the house because we have 90% hardwoods but I don't want them in any of the bedrooms where the carpet is. Also, DH and I (when I do work) both work in surgery and the shoes we wear to work are absolutely coming off at the door or I will spaz!
I voted SS. I always take mine off at the door but DH refuses. He thinks I'm being paranoid about germs. I also can't bring myself to ask guests to take off their shoes--it always makes me think of that Sex and the City episode where Carrie's shoes get stolen, haha.
SS here. I don't wear shoes unless I'm going somewhere, and usually just throw on flip flops. DH puts shoes on when he gets dressed and will wear them all day even if not going anywhere. I don't mind if people wear their shoes in our house, but most don't. I also take my shoes off when entering someone else's house. It's common courtesy in Hawaii to do so as they have adopted many Asian practices.
My husband works as a cook. So when he gets home from work, those shoes stay in the garage or on the porch. No way do they come in. If it's sneakers, we have a basket by the door where we keep most of our shoes. If it's flip flops, it doesn't matter.

I think a lot of my issue with wearing shoes in the house stems from me working in a hospital. I wouldn't dare wear my work shoes in the house so I think the habit started from that.
we take our shoes off. i waa not brought up taking shoes off but DH was and it is just what we do. and its funny because my ILs take theirs off without prompting but my parents don't
Ugh! This has been an ongoing fight in my house for years! I always take my shoes off, as does my toddler. My husband on the other hand wears his shoes all day, even if we have no plans to do anything. It drives me crazy because he will take his shoes off at other people's houses, so I feel like he just doesn't respect my (our) house. I am the one who cleans the floors, but even if he did I don't think it would change things. He says he is more comfortable in shoes.

I voted 'depends on the shoes'.

Fastest year of my life.
