Hi all. I am seeking some advice since we have started TTc number 2. 2 years ago I was diagnosed w pcos (diagnosed through ultrasound and history). We tried a few months unmediated to find I wasn't ovulated (35 plus day cycles..still bleeding). Dr put me on femara and some cycles didn't ovulate and others I did w short leutal phase. 6 months in and did femara and trigger which gave me my ds. We have just started TTc baby number 2. I ovulated (on my own...can't ever remember doing that!) but progesterone was low at the 5dpo check (7.9). I am considering one more cycle unmediated and then may try the femara again. However I would really like a full infertility work up etc to really know what is going on w my body. I would prefer to go to a RE (treated by my gyn in past) but I'm thinking the price may kill me. If I go through my gyn most of the services are covered (at least in the past they were). I'm thinking if I have a plan in place ( blood work etc) then my gyn can follow through. Please any advice appreciated as to where to go from here....

Yours doesn't have to be a sad story
We all see REs and you won't get a lot of GYN sympathy (from me). At the consult you will talk to someone in the billing department who will review your insurance coverage. You can also just call your insurance co and ask, and look up your state mandated coverage. Some policies require an approval just for the consult so it's worth looking into. Some REs will want to retest you so GYN testing isn't always valid and it's not worth it to do the same test multiple times.
There is a lot of info online about what questions to ask your insurer if your RE does not give you a list, but all 3 clinics I have consulted at have done so. There is also a lot of information on Inciid and Resolve. The TTTC board is where a lot of people just starting out with treatments sometimes feel more comfortable since we are generally IUI/IVF here, and they have a good FAQ, listed on their page and on the IF FAQ page as well. I hope you find the change a positive one. Good luck.

A lot of insurance companies will pay for diagnostic testing regarding infertility, so firstly I'd call you insurance company and have an in depth convo about that.
Secondly, I have some love for being treated by an ob/gyn. All of my Clomid cycles (6) and my injectables TI and 2 IUIs were done with my ob/gyn. We visited an RE and he told us we were getting great care and he wouldn't do anything differently in the past or moving forward. We really felt good after that appt.. I felt like I was getting excellent care with my ob/gyn clinic and once we decided to move to IVF, we made the leap to an RE clinic.
We had all our testing and labs run through the ob clinic as well as a RPL panel run. During our year with them (before IVF). They were fantastic.
This I know is not the case for everyone but it was true for us and I have no regrets about our path.

Everybody is welcome!!!
Hello and welcome! As pp's said, many RE's will not take labs from outside providers. My RE has there own lab that they use and my insurance suprisingly covered all my diagnostic testing. They gave me a list of the labs/tests and the codes to use for insurance. I called the insurance company and went through every single code with them and was pleasantly suprised that they covered those!
I don't have PCOS but I know that many wish they would've seen an RE sooner. Also many RE's take a while to get into see for an initial appt. so maybe call to set up an initial consult, there someone from insurance with usually speak with you.
Good luck on whatever you decide!
