Consignment stores rock!

Before my son was born, I didn't even know what a consignment store was. Now we use them all the time for various baby products and clothes. My husband and I have been on the hunt for a nice backpack carrier for hiking and other outdoor activities, and we finally found one! We're getting a Kelty K.I.D.S. FC 3.0. They sell retail for $220-$250 and we're getting it for $65. It's only been used once and still has all the packaging.

I couldn't be more excited! If you haven't checked out any local consingment stores or consignment sales, I highly suggest finding some. They can save you so much money Big Smile

Re: Consignment stores rock!

  • Well some of our local consignment stores are pretty slim pickings and prices aren't so great. But I always find great stuff at Once Upon a Child. However thanks to Terri's post about selling her belongings I will be very careful about consigning things myself. I usually hand down clothes and set some aside for possible future LOs and then craigslist toys/larger items.

Well hello fellow Oregonian Big Smile We LOVE Once Upon a Child. We buy all our clothes there. The Kelty we're getting tomorrow is at Piccolina. Have you tried those stores? I've been to several different consignment stores around here, while some are like boutiques and the prices aren't great, there are some great ones around. But OUC beats them all.

Hello! :o) I'm in the Salem area now, but I grew up in Vancouver, WA and the PDX area. I went to one Piccolina last spring. It had cute stuff, but was more $$ like you said. I found a couple things for CDing at Bella Stella (I think that's the name of it) and tried on lots of carriers there. PDX definitely had lots more for second hand baby stuff. I love to Craigslist shop in Portland. Salem's Craigslist is very hit and miss.

  • I absolutely love one of our local consignment shops where I live in South Carolina. They'll occassionally do a sidewalk sale of the things that haven't sold in a very long time and there's always a ton of baby clothes and you fill up a plastic bag and only pay 6 dollars for whatever you can fit into it. I got several clothes and a boppy pillow cover. They're just going to outgrow it quickly so why buy brand new clothes?
