We decided to transition DS to the crib this weekend (starting with last night). Our pedi raised concerns that it woudn't be safe for him in the RNP for too much longer - and really... it was getting hard to secure him in there. He's still swaddled (and not ready to give that up), and he's getting so big that the straps were really hard to wrap around his legs. It just wasn't a good, safe arrangement anymore, despite how well he slept in there. :-( We don't have anything going on for the next several days, so it was as good of a time as we were going to get to lose some sleep to get him comfortable sleeping in his crib.
He went to bed in the crib just fine at 7:00pm... but was up crying at 7:45pm. He didn't fall sleep again until 9pm. Then he was up at 10pm for another 45 minutes before falling back asleep. Thankfully, after that, he was up at his normal times for overnight feedings (2am and then 7am for the day), but man - 7:45 to 10:45pm last night was ugly in this house.
But hopefully how the 2nd half of the night went is an indicator that tonight will go better... that, and he's napping in his crib now. I LOVED that RNP, but man - this transition is no fun. Wish us luck that last night was the worst of it!!!
Re: Our RNP to crib transition didn't go so well...
We didn't transition my son until he was 7 months and it was very rough for the first night, but got better pretty quickly. After 3-4 days he was sleeping just as well as he was in the RNP, which for him was still getting up 5-6 times a night, but that's just how he always slept (he didn't STTN the until he was almost 2).
I hope tonight goes better for you!

Unassisted Pregnancy #2 - lost at 15w6d due to T21, severe heart defects, and fetal hydrops
We did not transition DS until about 6-7 months either (but we were out of the swaddle, so it was easier to strap him in). We tried it for a couple nights and it was not going well, so we switched back to the RNP. Then, we tried again about a week and a half later and it was totally fine. It's a tough transition, but just take it slowly and it will work out.
Good luck- I hope tonight is way better!
i hope each night gets easier!
we never had the RNP and now i am kind of afraid of the addiction...
Sorry for the rough transition!
My mom was here when we moved DD from the RNP to her crib, and she had the idea of putting some phone books under one end of the crib (the side where her head was), so that it still had a very gradual incline. I wonder if that might help your LO.
Hang in there!
