Does carters seem to run small?

My little friend is moving on up in sizes.  But, when I saw all the beefy babies in Gabe's room at daycare today it really made me wonder if Carters runs small.  All of the kids are younger than him, and HUGE. It made me wonder how many babies really wear 12 month cloths at 12 months.

Here I was, all excited that he was going to be in 12 month stuff before he turned 12 months :)

Re: Does carters seem to run small?

  • I find that carters sizes vary.  The fleece pjs seem to run bigger than the cotton and the pants seem to run small but the shirts seem to be true to size...

    This was no help. Sorry.

  • Actually, this was helpful because this is totally what I am finding.  Cotton PJs that are 9-12 are getting tight, but fleece are fine.  He is still wearing 3-6 pants in most brands BUT carters he is in 6-9.  He's in 9-12 tops, but they are getting snug and he's ready to move to 12-whatever.

  • I do find their stuff runs small, I have been able to put him in 12 month long sleeve onesies for a while, however, I picked up some 12 month pj's in the US last visit (I live in Canada) and they were HUGE... so basically I am now confused. Sorry, probably no help to you either.

  • I find Carters sizing to mean UP TO 12 MONTHS not really 12 months. Piper is in the 50th percentile and fits in the 12 month perfectly. At 12 months, she'll move into 12-18th month clothes.

  • It shrinks terribly it seems. To answer your question though, yes, my not quite 9 month old daughter is in some 12 month stuff from Carters, some 18, and then other 9 month stuff (pants) still fit.

Ah, that makes perfect sense.  He's at 10% for his actual age and 35-40% for his adjusted age.  So, it makes total sense why he'd be just now starting to fit into 12 month stuff.  The 9-12 isn't super tight, but there's no more room to grow in them really.

  • Cam's a little on the small side (25th) and he runs pretty true to size in Carters, but they do shrink terribly (I suppose anything that's cotton will do that tho!)

I haven't noticed shrinking.  But, we wash everything on cold and dry on low (H is terrified of ruining my clothes).  So, maybe that's it.  :)

  • I find Carters clothing true to size.  DD is in thr 50th for weight, and 75th for height.  She is still wearing their 9 month clothing and can also wear 12 month.  Most of our 12 month is summer stuff for the random warm day we get here and there.  I didnt feel like buying her clothes twice!

  • I also find that the different lines of Carter's clothes run differently. Mason mostly has them from Carter's online, but he also has some of the Carter's made specifically for Target, and he used to have one or two of the Walmart Carters. I honestly can't remember what ones ran bigger or smaller, but I did notice a difference when he was younger.

  • It seems it's really inconsistent. One thing I've noticed though is the onsies all seems to be cut thinner than other brands.

  • yea I think it's inconsistent. Some of their 9 month stuff was huge and some of their 18 month stuff is small. But for the most part Nick wears mostly 18 mos from any company.

I agree with this. The cotton pajamas and the pants are always being switched to a bigger size long before everything else. Otherwise, Lena is very true to size. She is in the 40th percentile for both height and weight, if that helps at all.

  • I find that it does run small. The Children's Place and Target(Chico) sizes run true. It was so frustrating when I realized it was Carter's that ran small.

  • Inconsistent- LO can still fit into some 9 month carters clothes and in others he's already in 12 month. Some 12mo  PJs we bought shrunk and barely fit. go figure
