Aggressive dog--vent

My little yorkie has the worst aggression issues and its really starting to worry me with LO on the way. He just pooped by the back door and as I grab toilet paper to pick it up he starts growling and charging at me, to the point where he bite my leg all without me saying a word. I tried holding him to calm him down which he did then when I set him down he bite my fingers--so outside he went. I am thinking he needs to get some training classes in STAT. He only acts up when he's done something wrong, he's like a rebelious teenager. (and yes he's fixed)

Re: Aggressive dog--vent

  • I volunteer for a rescue... I have seen a lot of foster dogs and I will tell you that you need to get in training ASAP.  You do not want to join the long list of mothers who gave up their pet because the children and pet do not get along.  I know you have a lot on your plate, but if you want to keep the dog and the baby... go to training and seek the advice of a professional trainer.

  • He's 3 almost 4. He never used to be like this until we moved. We've discussed his behavior with the baby on the way, DH doesn't seem to see the issue as much as I do. I know that we would never get rid of him, it would be more keeping him separated but I want to get him in check NOW!

  • I agree with getting him to a trainer ASAP. But I also suggest making an appt with his veterinarian. Often times, animals become aggressive when something is wrong with them physically. I'm not saying that is the case, but you may as well get all your bases covered.

Good luck! I hope you are able to find a solution.

I have that on my list to discuss with the vet, they go in next month for their yearly check up.

  • After watching The Dog Whisperer, I started upping the number and length of the walks that I go on with my puppy.  For us, we have found his philosophy that exercise is essential for a well-behaved dog to be true.  Daisy is an almost year old lab and the days we don't go on a walk, she plays a lot more roughly (jumping and mouthing- she never actually bites down).  So, do find a dog trainer but also think about ways to increase your pup's exercise.
