Abby's Lane shared this on Facebook this morning, and I thought I'd share as well as ask the experienced ladies if these tips are solid ones for maintaining cloth diapers?
Kind of weird tips. I agree to let things cool before stuffing (or hang dry is better). The velcro advice sounds like a total pain. I just do things up inside out on the diapers where my laundry tabs quit working. A cat brush or safety pin also works to remove lint (which does help make velcro stickier again). To me, washing every other day makes the most sense because of load size. I've stretched it to every 3 days now without having a bigger stash, though. Really, part if it is how many diapers fits in a load of laundry.
1. for the covers hang dry, in the sun if possible (dryers are killers for velcro and elastic). our liners have done great in the dryer.
2. have more diapers than you technically need, you'll use each one slightly less
3. follow the manufacturer's instructions for washing them religiously- use lots of water, minimal amounts of soap every time (and spend the extra $ for fragrance and dye-free soap)
4. don't let them go more than 2 days without a wash. it's incredibly painful, but we wash every other day without fail
we've been using the same 35-40 diapers for the last ~2 years this way, through poop storm after poop storm, and they have held up great!
