I also think it's a tad stuck up if you aren't French at all. However, this might just be clouded by the show 90210 where the bitchy stuck-up older sister had her baby and named it Jacques and the younger sister kept saying "you mean Jack?" and she kept correcting her in a bitchy way. Ha!
I would know how to pronounce it, though.

Now I'm a judgey hor, but if I heard this name and the parents weren't French or from a French-speaking country I would find them pretentious.
fair enough.
It's my dad. He's very fluent in french. From lebanon which although is not france, it has many french influences since they occupied it until after my father was born. So I think he fits your criteria.

Family names are also exempt from my burning side-eye of judgement.

I'm just wondering because I'm at work, have worked here for 12 years... And maybe a handful of people know how to say his name. They LOVE him, but have no clue how to pronounce his name. And most of these peeps have names I couldn't pronounce if my life was on the line.
But some young lil B'otch just called and was like, "yeah whatever ja' whatever that super weird name is...." and I'm thinking, "um, what's your name again?"
have a lil respect for this "old man with the weird name" that you just called and asked for.

You're right, that's very rude. I don't think it's a strange name at all, buuuuutttttt my DD's name is French (Elle), and we aren't French, so I suppose I am totally pretentious
2012 Races: 3/18 Shamrock Shuffle 5k; 4/14 E.R. Race for Autism 5k (PR! 25:58); 6/9 Riudoso Sprint Triathlon; 6/24 Chunky Monkey 10K; 7/29 Cochiti Lake Olympic Triathlon; 9/16 Chips & Salsa 1/2 Marathon; 10/21 Duke City 1/2 Marathon; 12/2 Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon in Vegas!
We were going to give DS a French name if he had been a girl, so I don't think it's pretentious to name your kiddo that if you're not French.
Unrelated, my BF growing up had a brother named Jacques (they were American/Chinese) but they pronounced it "Jock" with a the hard "j" sound. I always thought that was a little odd!
Re: is this a weird name? POLL
Always Sunny's back b-tches!

I don't remember the dog from lady and the tramp.
It's like the Jacques Cousteau? you know that guy... The explorer/sailor dude, or whatever he did.
