Dr's finally gave us a diagnosis about my dad at about 7:30 last night. Turns out he has leukemia. It was caught very early, and they are going to start with one week of round the clock chemo, and hopefully that will put it into remission. Once in remission the regimin wil change to try to get rid of it completely. The Dr said in a few months he may end up needing a bone marrow transplant, and as luck would have it I am the only of his kids that have the same blood type, but we still may not have the same tissue type.
I was doing a little research online, and it said they can also use cord blood, instead of bone marrow. My mom is going to ask the Dr about this today. DH and I are both of the same ethnic background, and both have the same blood type, so we are hoping this may be a possibility if need be. It would be awesome for our little boy to be able to save his grandpas life!
Re: Just Need to Vent About Life-Update
Wow...I'm so sorry to hear about your dad but WOW - the timing would be amazing to be able to give your dad the cord blood.
Keep us updated as you can, keeping your dad in my T&P - so so so glad they caught it early enough!
this post is EXACTLY why I am registered to be a bone marrow donor.
prayers for your family and I hope the cord blood would work! how amazing that would be!
