3rd Trimester

a little freaked -- can you reassure me?

Even last night, the little guy has been a total nut job, rolling, punching, etc., especially when I eat sugar.

Today, many B-H, maybe some movement. So tonight, I drank a bunch of juice and have been lying on my left side. Finally, after maybe 30-40 minutes, a few teeny little weak pokes, but that's it.

Now that we're over 38 weeks, should I just be happy with some movement or is this worth the minor freaking I'm doing?

I have an appt with the midwife tomorrow at 1:30. Would you just wait until then?   It's a 45 minute drive to the hospital, if that matters.

Thanks!

Re: a little freaked -- can you reassure me?

  • I've read that it is much harder for baby to move at that stage of pregnancy cuz they are cramped in there.  I would feel reassured by the movements you felt.  I'm pretty good at freaking out but I don't think I would in this case.  You could always place a call to make you feel better.  It's good you have an appt tomorrow.

  • I may be concerned if the movement was different...or significantly decreased. The fact that he is moving is good though. I guess...if it were me...I would wait until the appt. Only you know your baby's movement and can judge them. If it's enough to concern you, a call to ask wouldn't hurt to see what they recommend you do!
  • You need to lie back down and do another kick count. Shake your belly first if you have to. If you don't get ten movements by the end of the second count...I would suggest going to the hospital. Sorry to be a fear monger.

  • So as I was composing this to thank you, the little punk suddenly gave me two strong swift kicks. Now I do feel better.  I was (and still a little bit am) freaked because still yesterday he was a little tornado in there.

  • Oh, good!!!  Glad he gave you a couple kicks!  Try not to worry, but definitely mention your concern at your appt.
  • OMG, Choir, I wrote this same post at the end of last week!!! Baby Girl did the same thing to me. Totally went chill for two days! My OB appt was on the second day, and when she wasn't very active on the NST, they sent me to the hospital for an u/s. Ends up she was moving, but they weren't significant moves. After those two days, she was back to being her active self. In fact, tonight she was a freakin' jumpin' bean! I hope they can reasssure you at your OB appointment today.
