I was going to keep the baby in my room for a month or so in the pack and play and hten move him to his crib but now Mom's are saying that the pad is not firm enough.
Some PnP's offer an infant sleeper/bassinet attachment. That's what the ladies are referring to. They will outgrow it though - which is where the main sleeping area in the PnP is used.
The thing with the canopy is for infant sleeping, the one next to it is for changing diapers.

This is like the PnP I have. I never used the bassinet since we bought the PnP when DD was around 12 months but it looks like it offers pretty good support.
I'm going with a Fisher Price Rock n Play for the first few months. I just can't deny the reviews I've read and when I posted it on Pinterest last night, I got several positive comments about its "awesomeness." I use the pack n play for travel, going to grandma's, etc.
We were given a bassinet as a hand-me-down and honestly loved it. We did also have a PNP, but never had the bassinet attachment. If you plan on buying a PNP anyway, I would get that and just add the bassinet!
The Graco pack & play recommended use is as follows:
Napper for use only for infants under 3 months of age and unable to roll over
Bassinet for babies under 15 lbs
Changing table for babies under 25 lbs (Newborn Napper LX, DLX and Elite models hold up to 30 lbs)
Playard for children unable to climb out, under 35" tall
I'm planning on using it in leiu of a bassinet for about 3 months, or at least while my baby is safe to stay in the napper, which has more support. After that, I'll probably move her to her crib. I mainly want her sleeping right next to me to make BF easier and because it's supposed to be safer to have her closer initially.
