Any lactation consultants?

I took DD to the doctor today and she has lost more weight.  She has gone from 9 lbs 2 oz to 6 lbs 15 oz.  Not good. :(  The doctor told me to nurse her for 7 min each side and then pump and feed her the pumped milk.  She is a lazy sucker and will not stay latched.  She latches and pulls off and will never pull long enough or strong enough to get to let down.  The pedi believes if we can get some milk in her she will begin to suck better as she gets stronger.  The real problem is that I've been pumping and can no longer get anything from the pump.  I have never had much luck pumping in the past either.  Is my only option now to give some formula?  Any suggestions on how to get DD to not be lazy and actually suck to let down?

Re: Any lactation consultants?

  • I'm not a lactation consultant but I went and saw one and I was having trouble with my supply and she suggested to take a herbal supplement called mothers love more milk special blend and it has helped me tremendously maybe try that before jumping right to formula? HTH good luck :)

  • I'm dealing with the same thing. Lo only gained 4oz between wm1 & 2. We started supplementing formula to make up the difference between what I'm producing and what Lo is sucking - plus pumping. I started taking fenugreek yesterday also and I'm pumping more than a half ounce more already.  Lo has started latching better since getting pumped milk and formula quicker via bottle. I think he was partially lazy and partially bored trying to get whet he needed. As a side note, the pumping is giving my nips a much needed break.

    Good luck!!

  • What kind of pump are you using? I am much more successful with a hospital grade pump so I rented a Medela Symphony with this baby.
