Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Anyone using pull up style diapers yet?

I think it's time for us to switch to a pull up style diaper, like either Pull Ups, Easy Ups or Little Movers.

We aren't potty training yet, so that's not the reason - it's just because Gage has a huge meltdown every time we try to change him and it's infinitely easier to get a swim diaper or pull up on him than a traditional diaper. So I'm thinking a slip on style with the tabs that can still open for easy removal are going to be the way to go.

Also he is busting out of Size 6 diapers, so that's another reason.

Anyone have any recommendations? I'd particular be interested in hearing from other moms of big kids wearing at least a size 2T in shorts, and over 30 lbs, what is working best for you. I'm really confused by the Huggies Little Movers sizes! Size 4 22-37lbs, Size 5 over 27 lbs? What?

Re: Anyone using pull up style diapers yet?

  • We have been using some pull up style diapers for a couple of months. We bought the BRU brand size 2T-3T and DS mainly wears them at daycare. We still use traditional diapers at home and overnight. (FYI - we have never had success with a pull up style diaper overnight.)

However, we are going to start seriously potty training in June and we are planning on going cold turkey with all diapers/pull ups. We aren't really sure what will happen, but want to try as we are hoping this approach might result in faster results. I may be in the minority but I think at some point pull ups may be confusing to a little kid if the pull ups are used like regular diapers and not more like real underwear.

  • I am trying the Huggies Slip on diapers since they I got a coupon for a free pack. I am not usually a fan of Huggies since they leak for us but they've worked well so far in that department. I'd have found them to be a pain in the butt to slip on so far since his legs are super squirmy anyways and they are fairly form fitting so you have to work them up. Then invariable that whole process results in his boy parts pointing up so you need to readjust that so he doesn't spray out the top.  Personally I'd rather just wrangle him down for two second and be done with it. I guess it would depend upon if he is cooperative with putting on pants. DS isn't so the slip ons just drag out the baby wrestling process. The removal is easy though.

No I agree. I'm really not interested in them for potty training just yet, and when the time seems right we'll try that 3 day potty training bootcamp thing and go cold turkey on underwear. But at daycare they will probably still want him in a pull up until he isn't having any more accidents so eh - who knows. Right now I can't even think about it, I just need to find a new diaper that fits and is easier to get on him.

I know our daycare prefers we send pull up diapers with DS. He will only be there until the end of the school year and then will be at home with Dad (and hopefully me too if I get a new job) for serious potty training. We are looking at the three day training too.

If you do want to get pull up type diapers now, I would recommend looking for some that have size like 2T, 3T, etc. The suggested weight on diaper packs has always been weird to me since DS never really fell into those weight categories.

I guess it will have to be Huggies Pull Ups then - they are sized 2T-3T and also have the easy open sides.Pampers Easy Ups doesn't have the open side option and I envision smearing poop all the way down DSs legs during diaper removal time.

I think i'll buy a small package today and if all goes well we'll sign up for the amazon mom auto deliveries.

Getting pants on my kid is infinitely easier than a diaper. It's the laying down that's an issue. As long as he can stand up he's cool.

We are planning the switch soon as we make our way head-first into PTing. ::gulp::

I have decided on Pampers Easy Ups. Lily is 27 lbs and size 4 diapers are starting to get snug on her. So I am getting the size 5 Easy-Ups, which are like, 3T or sumshit like that.

Let's hope they work. GL with your decision!

Easy Ups seem to get better reviews than Pull Ups - I'm just worried about not having the easy open sides! Is that not as big a deal as I'm thinking? I have yet to change a dirty diaper that's a pull on style. See above comment about the vision of smearing poop down DS's legs...

  • We don't try to neatly remove a poopy pull up. We just rip it apart on the sides. I would be worried about poop smearing everywhere and I'm not down to clean that more than once.

  • Starting pull ups during the day this weekend.  DD is currently wearing Size 5 7th Generation.  I think the pull ups in 7th Generation are 2T or maybe 2T-3T - don't remember.

We have been getting DD on her potty whenever we can and we have had some success.  Issue is her telling us when she has to go and then being able to get her to the potty in time.  I am eager to switch to the pull ups because it is often hard to get the regular diapers off fast enough.  I have been peed on twice by DD right in front of the potty while trying to get off a regular diaper.

Easy Ups actually do have easy open sides - you just tear the side apart - kinda like a swim diaper!  DD has been wearing them for awhile now.  They don't contain the poop as well as a regular diaper, but DD is doing about half her poops in the potty now!
