DH just informed me he has never.....

changed a diaper! I'm shocked! After 9 years, that's something I didn't know about him! Now.. to Walmart to buy a baby doll and get him to practicing! LOL! Good thing I worked in daycare for 6 years hahaha! At least ONE of us has some kind of experience!

Mine hasn't either. In fact, he's only ever held 1 baby once! And it was my friends baby last summer (8 month old). He has a lot to learn.....

But I also had him practice diapering already, on a stuffed animal, lol.

  • My hubby has never changed a diaper or held a baby! I was surprised when I first found out but then I thought about it and he is an only child and has no close cousins. They will learn really fast don't worry!!

  • I don't think my DH had before our son was born. He is now an expert! He'll get plenty of chances to practice once the baby is here.

  • I had never changed a diaper until a few years ago when I worked with toddlers!!

My husband has definitely changed more baby diapers and has more experience with babies than me. I'm not a big fan of holding people's new babies. Can't wait to hold my own though Big Smile

  • Neither my husband nor I have ever changed a diaper.  I'm 30 years old and he's 29.  :)

Honestly, it's not rocket science.  Even though I've never done it, I'm not worried for a second that we'll have difficulty.

  • Mine hadn't either until DD was born. The nurse showed him how in my room - It was so cute I remember watching him.

  • Our baby will be the first baby DH has even held, so don't be too shocked haha! He just never had younger siblings, cousins, etc. and we are among the first of our friends to have kids...

  • I know this is probably goin to sound silly. But if you really wanted to get him prepared, and not use your LO as a crash course in baby for him you could also always rent a robo baby. LOL.

Lucky my DH comes from a VERY big family so babies werent a problem for him with DS1. Good Luck.

  • Interesting.  This is the least of my worries, TBH.  I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've changed a diaper and I would bet DH has never changed one.  Last diaper I changed would have been, oh, 20 years ago?

It isn't rocket science.  You go through 10-12 or so diapers in a day.  I'm quite confident that we'll master it in a few days or less.

  • My husband and I had our first at age 19. He had never held a baby or changed a diaper. I was pleasanty surprised seeing that it all came so natural to him. He's an awesome Daddy!

  • My husband had never changed a diaper when my son was born and he's the oldest of 5.  He was 12 & 14 when his last two siblings were born so I don't know how he managed to avoid ever changing a diaper.  The nurse taught him how with our son's first diaper change and he changed pretty much every diaper in the hospital (I had a very rough recovery and could barely get out of bed so it was left up to him).
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • I never changed a diaper or babysat in my life, which my MIL thinks is pretty funny.  She's done in-home day care since DH was a baby, so he grew up helping out with babies and I'm the totally ignorant one.
  • My DH has never either!  When we first met, a friend of ours had her DD, and he refused to hold her (that was about 3 years ago)....I knew we were ready to have kids when he voluntarily held one of his friends newborns, and kept the "scared as *** omg I'm going to do something horrible" look off his face.  Hopefully the birthing class will teach him something.  If not, he's an engineer-he'll figure it out eventually (and then make a spreadsheet or something to keep track of things).

  • I think it's fairly common for men.  DH wasn't around a lot of young kids growing up with than his younger brother.  It took him a bit to feel comfy rolling around and playing with my cousins' kids and and his friends' kids but now he enjoys it.  And I think he has changed his friend's daughter once or twice when babysitting.  Granted I came home and found the 3 yr old watching the rated R movie that happened to be on tv when they got dropped off "because it was already on" but he'll learn!

  • Um....neither DH nor I has ever changed a diaper Embarrassed. We are complete amateurs. We went to a parenting class last Saturday, have a childbirth class tomorrow and a breastfeeding class next month. I need to be schooled!

  • When our son was born neither my husband nor I had ever changed a diaper.  I had never babysat, and if I had held a baby it was maybe once or twice in my life.  I'm not a "baby person" and don't really enjoy them.  Excluding my own, though I wish they were born at 6 months old! LOL
