What do your LO's call their grandparents...

I have heard some very cute and outrageous names for grandparents lately. What are the names your LO's call/will be calling their grandparents?

My mom and dad are Granna and Grandy (unless DD names them otherwise bc she is their first grandchild), and DH's mom and dad are MiMi and Papa.

  • My parents are Grandma GG (she's a great grandma already but DD grandma) and PaPa. DH parents are just grandma and grandpa unless DD names them something else. She is their first and unless we have anymore kids their only.

  • DS1 calls my parents "nana" and "grampy" and then DH's parents "grandma" and "grandpa"

  • Grammie and Grandpa for my parents.

The inlaws wanted Mimi and Papa, but we vetoed it (just don't like the way it sounds), and our LO will be taught to call them Grandma (first name) and Grandpa (first name). They'll hardly ever see this set anyway.

  • My parents are divorced and remarried and they'll all be grandma and grandpa. DH's parents will be grandma and Papa, this is already what our neice and nephew call them.

  • Mine are Gigi and Grandpa Don and Grandpa Jerry (step-dad and dad). My Nana is the one and only and my mom didn't want to be Grandma, so she came up with something else. DH's are Nina and Pa (there are 7 prior grandkids on his side, so we inherited those)...

To my angels- I held you every second of your lives and I'll love you every second of mine.

  • My grandparents are nana and pap since thats what I've always called them, although my 2 yr old calls Nana 'nan'. My mom wanted to be grammy but cayd has decided 'g' is easier lol. My dad is supposed to be papaw, but after hearing g call him his name 'keith', he only calls him by name now lol. Dhs dad and step mom already are called mimi and papaw, so thats stuck. And Dhs granny is granny to everyone in town, so that will also stay the same.

  • My Mom is Grandma and my dad was Pap-Pap ( he passed).  My DD started calling my dad Pap-Pap when she was a baby and it stuck but my brother's children always called him Grandpa. DH's parents are Grandma and Grandpa for our children but Zep and Grandpa for DH's brother's children.  So Grandma and Pap-pap and Grandma and Grandpa.
  • My parents are Nonna and Papa. DH's parents are grandma and grandpa.

  • DH's parents are Granny and Po-po.  My parents divorced and remarried, so DS has a lot of grandparents on my side.  My dad and stepmom will probably be Grandpa and Grandma (last name if we need it), my stepdad will probably be Grandpa too.  My mom passed away so there will unfortunately be no confusion between Grandma's.  My mom's parents are still around, and they will be some version of Great-grandpa/ma, whatever DS can pronounce. :)

  • My mom and stepdad are Grammy and Grampa... DHs mom is Nana, my grandparents are Poppy and Gie (Gie is what I came up with as a baby when I couldnt say Granny)
  • T has three sets of grandparents - nana and Pappa, grandma and grandma, and Oma and opa. My mom is german and we always called her mom Oma. He has two great grandmothers but I'm not sure he will see them again by the time he is speaking as they are older and live in another state.
  • DS is the first grand kid for both sides and he has lots of grandparents. My mom and stepdad are Gran and JimPaw, my dad and stepmom are Pawpaw and Mawmaw and DH's parents are Savta and Saba (Hebrew for grandma and grandpa$.  DH's grandmother is Savta Hanna.

  • DH and I just talked about this! So far (obviously) DS isn't calling anyone anything.

Both sets refer to themselves as "Grandma and Grandpa". Personally I'd prefer different names for each of them. My neices refer to both sets of their grandparents as "Grandma (last name) and Grandpa (last name)". It seems so formal and kinda cold to me.

I would choose "Grandma and PaPa" for DH's parents and "Grannie and Grandpa" for my parents (although I really loved PP of Granna). I like the names a bit off the norm--they seem cuter to me. In my family my mom is really close to her grandkids and in DH's family his father is much more welcoming.

At this point I'm not really pushing anything. It's one of those "pick your battles" events. If the time arouse I might ask my mom her preference. I think she'd like something cuter than "Grandma" but probably is going with it because my SIL demanded her girls call her that.

  • My mom is MeMa and her husband is Pops. My inlaws are Nana and Grampa.

On a side note, I'm so sorry for those of you who have lost a parent.

  • My parents are Grandma and Grandpa unless he comes up with something else as the first grand kid. My in laws are Nana and Pop by choice. I'm not a fan of people picking out the grandparent name vs. letting it happen naturally but it's what my nephews call them too so it works.

I have 3 living grandparents that all go by great grandma/pa. Sadly, DH's only living grandparent passed away yesterday :(. But he went by Great Grandpa LastName. Fortunately, we saw him on Sunday for Lil Man's baptism.

  • My mom and dad are Mimi and grandpa (or whatever DS decides later because he is their first grandchild).  My DH's mom and stepdad are Nana and BB, his dad is Pa.  We have 2 nephews on that side so we inherited these names.

We would have vetoed it too but already have 4 nieces and nephews who have set it in place! I don't really like mimi or papa but oh well! Grammie is cute!

Yea, I'm not a fan of last names either. Especially knowing how close my DD will be with her grandparents (she is already SPOILED to death by them!). If you don't want to fight with them just bribe your DS with some candy to call them what you want when he's old enough!! LOL just kidding!!...kind of  =)

  • My parents go by Grammy and Grampy. My DH's parents are Mamaw and Papaw. I'm sure that they will answer to whatever my DD decides to call them though! :)

  • Another complicated family situation here -- my mom and stepdad are Nonna and PopPop, DH's mom is Babci (Polish). DH's dad is Grampy and his wife is (we guess) Grandma. My dad and his wife really aren't in our lives, so no idea what they'd want to be called.

  • Right now, we refer to them as grandma (or granny) and grandpa.  But ultimately, it will be whatever comes out of LO's mouth.  My niece calls my parents momo and popo and they were referred to as grandma and grandpa before.  Guess she didn't like that too much, LOL!
