You know how sometimes, someone will do something so kind that it just knocks you off your feet? That happened today.
DH brought the mail in when he got home from work, and I noticed we had a card from his Mammaw (his mom's mom). I opened the envelope and felt something slide...grabbed it and it was a check.
For $500.
I stood by the fridge and just sobbed like an idiot. She had written us the card to say that she loves us so much, and wanted to help out with our upcoming baby expenses. She told us to use it for "bills, or to paint the baby's room; whatever you need it for." I am just overwhelmed by how incredibly giving and wonderful she is...we might need to name a kid after her.
What's the last thing someone did that kind of took your breath away? I'm in a mushy mood and I want to hear sappy stories.
Re: AW: DH's Mammaw is the best.
Wow, that is amazingly generous!
DH is currently making me French Fries. That is pretty awesome for this hungry and tired pregnant lady

This is amazing... and I am jealous... not of you, but of her and her ability to just write a check like that out. I hope one day I am in the position to do that.
So happy for you that you have such an amazing woman in your life.... what is her name?
Same here!
That is such a wonderful and generous thing to do.
partial molar pregnancy : bfp 6.28.10, d/c 8.17.10, 7 rounds methotrexate, cleared 7.1.11

Ditto. I can't imagine what kind of a difference I could make it someone's life if I could be generous to that extent.
Her name is Evy Mae. Which is just adorably vintage and wonderful.
Awww! Evy Mae!!! Evy is one of the NN for our girl name!
Are you finding out if baby is boy or girl? Or do you know already?
That's awesome! Good for you!!
For me... probably when my MIL told me she and FIL were going to buy me (& the babe) the glider I've been dreaming about. It was $500 bucks and I could have never imagined actually ever owning it. I was truly blown away. Also, my DH's grandpa bought our baby's ENTIRE CD stash... about $750 worth... not to mention he is having a dresser crafted for the nursery.
DH and I have never asked our families for anything, ever, but they have all been so incredibly generous to us and our lil babe!
Before DH's mama died she blessed us financially many times. She gave us a car (not brand new and not fancy, but reliable and in good condition - we still use it), showered us and DD with baby things and money to get more.
I struggled to understand and not dislike her for many many years. It was only through some serious counseling that I was able to come to a better place with her and understand that my insecurities about her came from my own childhood. She and I reconciled completely when DD was 3 months old. She passed away 4 months later. I so wish I could have had more time with her not as a bratty young daughter-in-law.

I like to hear stories of people who love and appreciate their ILs. Sounds like you have a wonderful MIL and don't take her for granted. Your family will be all the more blessed for it.
How sweet of her! I know that was a very pleasant surprise! It's so nice to know people are thinking about you
My grandmother sent me a hand-made baby afghan when she found out that I was expecting. She makes beautiful things and it was very special to receive.
A great-aunt (my late grandmother's sister) called to tell me how happy she was for me and my husband and told me that she knew how proud my nana would be of me and all my accomplishments. That sent me into tears since I miss my nana terribly and wish she were here to share this experience with us.
And then my parents... They sent me two beautiful flower arrangements the day we found out we were expecting. They have helped us with so many things for the baby's room. I've gotten several random packages on my door step with maternity clothes and baby items. My dad will call from work just to say hello and to check on his girls. Just the random things, they are so thoughtful.
On a side note... a little annoyed with DH's family. Aside from a phone call or two right after we found out and after one of my tests, I've barely heard from any of them. Not even a card :-/
That is incredibly sweet!
Let's see...my friend bought me an Oreo cookie milkshake yesterday. That was pretty awesome!
That is really great, BV! So sweet of her.
I would have to say mine was on Monday. It was pouring rain and I have to park around the front of my boys' school and then walk around the back to pick up one of them (the other gets out 10 minutes later in the front). Anyways, it was raining, muddy, the grass is long, etc. and while I normally let my 2 year old DD walk back to get him, it was too gross. So I picked her up and carried her and she DID NOT LIKE IT. She kicked and screamed the entire way out back and the entire way back to the car. By the time I sat down, I was having cramps and started getting really nervous that she had hurt the baby.
I texted my mom just to tell her what happened (we are really close), and she came over as soon as she was out of work, packed a bag for the kids, and took all 3 of them home with her overnight!!! She has Tuesdays off from work so it worked out perfectly...and I was able to relax and sleep in on Tuesday. I
my mom. (And btw, everything is fine in there with the babe.
)
Aw, how kind! I would have sobbed too. Things like that just get me.
My sorta random act of surprising kindness is that the secretary of the department at grad school is knitting my baby a baby blanket. It's just so kind and unexpected.
Definitely finding out. Our a/s is Tuesday!
Mammaw has a long history of being amazing. She was the first person to treat me like family, and not just DH's girlfriend when we were first dating. She gave us $500 when we moved back to the US to buy a couch. She gave us $1000 to help pay for a used car. She plans to buy our glider/ottoman as well, and has randomly gifted me with maternity clothes. She took me shopping last time I spent the day with her and insisted on getting me things...even a new purse. When her husband died, he had been really frugal and left her with a lot of money, and she just spoils her grandkids rotten. Me included.
AMAZING!!!! I hope I am just like her one day!
I can't wait to hear what you are having! We have our u/s on the same day! So exciting!

That's wonderful and so sweet!
My nice thing is my parents are coming to visit net weekend and offered to buy us the $650 crib I've been dreaming about!
