Femara users

Questions:

1. Are you clomid resistant?

2. Did you ovulate on with Femara and if so how many mg?

3. Did you take dexamethasone with it or not (did you take it with clomid and not with femara?)

4.  Did you get a BFP and sticky??

Re: Femara users

  • 1. Yep, only ovulated on Clomid once without trigger, once with trigger....and I took up to 200 mg.

    2. Did not ovulate on Femara alone but grew good follies on combo cycles, Femara 5 mg CD 3-7 plus Gonal-F 37.5 iu CD 9-12 (I think....it has been pushing 4 years) and trigger.

    3. Never took it.

    4. Got a BFP on my second cycle of Femara and Gonal-F. I had 3 good follies with a possible 4th, had twins.

After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks. Lilypie Third Birthday tickers image

  • 1. No

    2. Yes, but I ovulated on my own so I was using it to get better and more follies. I took a mega-dose of femara, 12.5mg per day.

    3. Yes, to help prevent miscarriage as I had just lost two pregnancies.

    4. Yes, I also used a little bit of follistim and did an IUI. The result is our second son.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • 1. Are you clomid resistant?  No - ovulated once on clomid at 150..but thinned out my lining.

    2. Did you ovulate on with Femara and if so how many mg?  Yes - BUT I don't think femara alone would have done it.  I also did Menopur injections AND was on dex for 10 days. Was on 5 mg (I think) of Femara for 5 days.  Did 75 IU of Menopur on day 5 and 7, and then more Menopur after monitoring showed a dominent but small follicle.

    3. Did you take dexamethasone with it or not (did you take it with clomid and not with femara?)  I did not take dex with clomid but I did on the Femara/Menopur cycle.

    4.  Did you get a BFP and sticky??  Yes!  My baby was a result of this cycle.  Got one good follicle, triggered, IUI, TI the day after IUI, and bingo!  We were very thankful.

  • ETA: I have PCOS, but am not IR.

    1. Are you clomid resistant?

I never took clomid - my RE doesn't generally use it anymore - prefers letrozole (which is now generic and pretty cheap).

    2. Did you ovulate on with Femara and if so how many mg?

I've always taken 5 mg per day.  My first round (2009) resulted in my daughter, and I ovulated but very late (CD24 - no trigger shot).  I did three more rounds of just letrozole + trigger/TI over the last year, and I had 1-2 follicles each time, but no luck.  Then we added menopur (3-4 days of 75 iu per day) to get my lining a little thicker (on just letrozole, it was 6-7 mm each time - with the menopur added, it was 8-9).  I did two cycles of letrozole/menopur/IUI that were not successful.  I'm starting my third one now, and if it doesn't work, we'll reassess.  (My RE will only do the same protocol for three cycles before reassessing and moving on.)

    3. Did you take dexamethasone with it or not (did you take it with clomid and not with femara?)

    Didn't take it.

    4.  Did you get a BFP and sticky??

My first round resulted in my DD, no luck with the last 5 cycles.  However, I have no side effects on letrozole, have always gotten a good number of follicles, and it's pretty cheap (and reduces the amount of menopur necessary).  I

  • 1.  I've never heard it phrased that way but I would lean towards yes.  I didn't ovulate on 50mg or 100mg and I had only one follicle on 150mg and ovulated with trigger.

     2.  I ovulated all three times on 7.5mg Femara.  I responded well each time with 2-3 follicles.

     3.  Didn't take dexamethasone (actually I'm not sure what it is).

    4.  Yes.  We got a BFP on our third Femara/Ovidrel/IUI cycle which resulted in DS!

    Questions:

    1. Are you clomid resistant? No

    2. Did you ovulate on with Femara and if so how many mg? Yes, 2.5mg produced one great follie each time I've taken it (3 cycles for DD, 3 cycles so far TTC#2)

    3. Did you take dexamethasone with it or not (did you take it with clomid and not with femara?) Didn't take it at all...didn't really need it

    4.  Did you get a BFP and sticky??  Yes, with our 2nd IUI.  My main issue is/was antibodies on my cervix that kill DH's swimmers, so the Femara was mostly for timing purposes.

I think that's it for now!!  Thanks ladies!
