Hey ladies. We moved from the Boston area to Shreveport about 5 months ago, and since DH and I are planning on TTC in a few months, I've been speaking to other moms in the area about their providers/birth experience. The results have been...interesting, to say the least. Here's what I've discovered so far:
1. There are no midwives in northern Louisiana. This is a concern for me, as I would love to see a midwife.
2. Every. single. mother. I have spoken to (and I've spoken to many) has had a c-section. Their reasons ranged from breech babies to "my baby was posterior, so the doctor said I had to have a c-section" to "the ultrasound showed that my baby was on the larger side, so I had to have a c-section" to "my doctor told me I'm too short to deliver naturally." That last one really threw me for a loop.
I'm certainly not saying every single OBGYN in this area is ready to schedule my baby's birthday via c-section the second I get pregnant, but I'll be honest-this isn't looking good. Even though I didn't have the med-free birth I was hoping for with DS (you can read my previous post on this here ) but I'm not sure if the providers in this area are going to be on board with my desire to have a med-free birth. If there are other ladies in or near Shreveport who can offer suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it! TIA.
*Normally I would post something like this on my local board; unfortunately there is no local board for Shreveport.
Re: Anyone in or near Shreveport, LA?
I'm in the Dallas area, which is about 3 hours away. We have plenty of C-section friendly hospitals here, but also some great midwives (both homebirth and hospital-based).
I've talked to this lady before (not about birth stuff, though) -- she's a doula in Tyler, which is still about 1.5 hours from you, but I bet she'd have some clue about the lay of the land in Shreveport, or know who would: https://www.mamamatters.com/
Good luck!
