Spot on LO's tooth

I just noticed LO has a small brown spot underneath her gumline on her front tooth. I don't know if it could be a cavity or mineral deposit or what - but I feel awful so bad about it. It is obviously my fault. I brush her teeth but she still nurses to sleep so that is probably the cause. I'm making a dentist appt. ASAP which Clara will not like one bit. Ugh I feel like the world's worst mother. :(

    Is it possible to get a cavity where the tooth is still below the gum line? Or does that mean it is something else? I'm so worried about this :(

    It's possible it's decay, but there are other things it could be. At this age, I wouldn't say it's definitely not a cavity (without seeing it obviously) but I would say its unlikely. Has your child taken iron supplements? Any trauma to those teeth? Also, some babies can occasionally get calculus on the lower incisors, especially FF babies - I know you said you were nursing though. I think it's a good idea to get it checked, but try not to worry too much at this point.

    I am sure you are not the world's worst mom ;)  My sister has taken great care of my nephew's teeth, and has done it since he was our LO's age, and he has more fillings than I do.  They have checked to ensure it isn't anything medical, which it is not, they have just concluded that it is likely in his gene's.  How true that is, I don't know, and I don't know if they are saying it to make her feel better.  My point just being, no matter what we do, sometimes it's unavoidable.
