Prefolds and Containing Newborn Poop

I'm BFing my LO who will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. We are using prefold diapers with Thirsties Duo Covers. I am doing the angel fold with Snappis and am having some issues containing the gooey poop - I end up getting it on the cover every single time. Are there any tips, ways of folding the prefold, anything, for dealing with newborn poop?

My DD is 4 months old now and she gets poop on the diaper cover everytime she goes. I'd love to know if this is normal or if I'm doing something wrong. I didn't think we'd be having this many blow outs with CDing.

Poop is going to geton the cover sometimes, that is just the way it goes, and it will get better, soon!

My favorite was the jelly roll fold,which is really similar to angel wing, but you roll up the edges that go around the thighs. It is hard to explain, but there are utubes that will show you!

I'm wondering if I'm just not folding the prefold right. I'm hoping I get better with practice, and any tips for getting a better, more containing fold, would be awesome. Big Smile

Thank you! I was thinking that the jelly roll was the next thing I was going to try. I feel like I need to break in the prefolds a little bit more to get them more pliable.

The jelly roll fold works better for us. But really, we still get poop on the cover. The good thing is that they start pooping less frequently so it isn't as big of a deal. As long as everything is contained in the cover I'm happy!

So far, I'm still trying out different folds. I had no poop issues on the cover with the bikini twist.The last 2 days I've been doing the angel wing and had a big blowout on the cover (but at least not on her clothes!!) that I think was because I didn't have one leg tight enough. I think I still may like the angel wing better for ease....but the twist worked well for us. I'm pretty sure we're going to have poop explosions on the covers....just not as much on clothes like you would with sposies.

Jelly Roll works great for us. DD is every explosive and we rarely have poop on the cover issues. We use the Thirsties Duo's with GMD and Osocozy prefolds and Snappis.

I sent this video to the grandmas. She does a great job of explaining the why's of different folds. My mom did a perfect jelly on her first attempt Smile

Thanks for sharing this video! Anyone know if I do a newspaper fold will it hold it's shape? We have trouble with a couple of our ladies at daycare not getting "tuck all of the cloth into the cover", so I'm trying to think of a way of making it easier that doesn't involve us buying pockets or AIOs. Thanks!
