August 2012 Moms

Moms who live in the Northeast

I live in Pennsylvania and am due on 8/18. I am torn on what sizes I may need for the baby when he is born. Our DD was in newborn clothes for around a month or so. I am figuring he will need some newborn summer but then also some warmer things since the nights even in August and September can be quite cold. Then for the 0-3 months I am not sure if I will need summer clothes or just move right into fall and winter.

It is difficult when they are expected to arrive right around the times when the seasons change and when the weather can be very unpredictable! Anyone else in the same situation? It was so much easier when my DD was born in November since everything for the first 4-5 months was winter. But I am thrilled to be having a summer baby so it will be worth the confusion in clothes buying! :)

Re: Moms who live in the Northeast

  • I'm not planning on having baby in "real" clothes for a while. I think he will mostly be in onesies and pjs for the first few months. I would just buy fall/winter clothes.

Really?  I'm in PA as well and I think it is ridiculously hot through those months.  I don't think it starts to cool down here till October.  I'm from Colorado though and been here for a few years so maybe I'm just not used to it.  I don't think you will need anything warm in a NB size.  If it gets cold at night just shut the windows and turn down/off the AC.  I really think that it is horribly hot here through all of September though.  Maybe we are just on opposite sides of the state lol.

  • I live in Northeast PA, near the Poconos, and while it normally is very hot in August, September tends to be a wild card. Last year it rained like crazy and was miserable so summer seemed to end very early and the nights were very cold. But then we could also have a very hot October. I think I will do the same as what many of you have posted with onesies and sleepers for night time. God only knows what our summer will be like especially after hitting 90 degrees in April this year!

  • I'm in Ohio. DS #1 was born last July, so a month ahead. Most of his clothes are 0-3 months with a few NB. I want to say a lot of his clothes are onesies with bottoms and some have matching hoodies if needed. I doubt I will be seeing the light of day for a few months once #2 is here anyways. lol.

  • Newborn for the beginning, mine will be small. But I just got a ton of summer clothes for my shower that are 3 months! I'm going to return them for credit for fall clothes.

I am also from Northeast PA near Scranton!!!!  My son is due at the begining of August and I have a mixture of clothes!! All of my newborn clothes which isn't much are summer outfits... I have some summer outfits that are 0-3 or 3 months and I also have some long sleeved and pants outfits in these sizes as well because the nights can get cold and the house is air conditioned. I have a variety of clothes for all types of weather.. Hope that helps!

  • Im in Ohio and due the end of August.  I got a couple summery dresses in newborn and 0-3, but she'll most likely be in sleepers and onesie/pants combos in those early months just like DS was (born middle if June).  It's hard for them to regulate their temps, and she will be in the a/c for the most part.  That doesn't mean I will be bundling her up, but a small, summery dress wont be enough, and it's just easier to dress them up than to wrap in blankets all the time. If we'd happen to be outside in the heat, or we have the a/c turned off, then I'll put her in one of the summery outfits.  I'm planning on September being more like fall weather though.  I think we only had a few hot days last September if I'm remembering correctly.  The leaves fell early.

DS was also unpredictable with sizing, so I don't plan to buy anything too seasonal until  we get to that point.  Just lots of light long sleeves, and I'll buy actual winter stuff when the time comes.  When spring time comes around she'll be dressed more like us, but again, not buying ahead.  She could be wearing 6 month clothing or 18 month clothing then.  Really hard to say.

Hope and Rhenna, where in PA are you guys? I'm also in PA, in the Philly suburbs. I'm a FTM, so I'm not totally sure what clothes will be best, but I was planning on just getting short sleeved onesies and then layering with pants/long sleeved shirts as needed. We have central air so it will probably be cool in our house most of the time, so layering will be best. With the weather being as unpredictable as it has been lately, who knows what Sept/Oct/Nov will actually be like, though!

I was in the King of Prussia area but just moved to Lancaster (pretty much the same weather both places lol)  When I had DS it was in February and unless we went outside I had him in layers as well with short sleeved onsies since he would always sweat because of being swaddled.
