Got my blood work done! Confused?

I got it done, I am pregnant but they said I was only two weeks? That doesn't make sense, hpt test don't usually pick it up until four weeks? My hcg level is 84 right now? I'm so confused

Re: Got my blood work done! Confused?

  • They can't tell how pregnant you are by hcg levels alone because they can vary...a lot.  However, what they were probably trying to convey is that they are guessing you are about two weeks from conception (meaning 4 weeks pregnant).

The number doesn't matter.  What matters is that it rises in the appropriate timeframe.  Don't waste your time worrying because today, based on this, you're pregnant and don't have a basis for worry.  Enjoy it!

This is going to sound snarky, and I'm not intending it that way.  But my question is, why didn't you clarify this information while you were still there?  hCG levels vary, so we can't really tell you how far along you are, or if 84 sounds like the correct number.  Like PP said, they are probably trying to convey that you are 2 weeks post conception... As long as your levels are rising appropriately, then you're fine.

  • Can I add to this without starting a new thread?

Will most doctors call for another beta test after the first? Im suppose to get my results tomorrow and did first beta tuesday. He said he needed to do a beta test because " pee sticks are very unreliable " major eye roll because I know they are not (unless blue dye). My question is do they always do a second beta? My doctor didn't mention doing a second one, or that the first number doesn't matter as long as its doubling.

  • My mother works the lab and she had been really busy when we came up there so we only had a minute, I couldn't ask a bunch of questions at that moment. But yes I am going for another round of blood so they can watch it. Im just new to all this, I just misunderstood what she had said.

Did they specifically say they were doing a quantitative HCG test? Usually if they're just confirming pregnancy, they'll do a qualitative and not quantitative, so it's a yes/no, not a number. If it's yes/no then you wont have to have a repeat blood draw.

I believe it was just a qualitative. Thank you for answering.
