Success after IF

Heart palpitations

I posted this on the October 2012 Mommies board too, but I like getting advice from you guys too since we go WAY back.

Last night from about 8pm on I was having a lot of heart palpitations and I was just very aware of my heart and felt short of breath for a while.  I took a bath trying to relax and I still felt just "off" when I got out.  I ended up going on to bed because I didn't feel good.

This morning I feel fine, but still just a bit off and I randomly feel the heart flutters, but not like last night.

So is this something I should be concerned about?  I know we discussed having these flutters more often in pregnancy...but last night wasn't like normal.  I'm overly nervous this time because A) it's all different from my pregnancy with Miles and B) having miscarried in October I'm a total ball of nerves.

What do you think?  Call the doc or no?  I go back in 3 weeks.

Re: Heart palpitations

  • I would call because you had the shortness of breath.  Were you dizzy at all?

I've had heart palpitations with all of my pregnancies and just a few months ago had a few weeks were I was having them all the time despite not being pregnant.  They resolved on their own though.

I remember discussing them with my ob and he said they were normal during pregnancy but that if I was feeling shortness of breath or very dizzy along with them that he wanted me to let him know.  So, although I don't think what you're experiencing is all that serious it certainly wouldn't hurt to give your doc a call.

And yea, I'm right there with you with regards to being one big ball of nerves.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • anything that could potentially be serious, I wouldn't hesitate for one second to call...so...call!  Like the PP said, things get really screwy during pregnancy with all of the extra blood/fluid, etc...but definitely call and get it all checked out, ok?
  • I would call too, though I experienced stuff like that in pregnancy. Though I had high BP, so maybe they went hand in hand? not sure? My body always felt off through my pregnancy due to high bp.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • I called and the nurse said it's completely normal (as we suspected).  She said when it happens to drink 2 big glasses of water and lay down and try to calm down and rest.  But to also keep a close eye on my heart beat to make sure it's not irregular because that would be cause for concern.  It wasn't irregular last night except when it would flutter.  So that's good.

That's good :) I was going to say that this happened to me a few times later in pregnancy. Turned out to be nothing but it definitely freaked me out!

Of course!  :-)  I'm having one of the "ultra AW-ish" (per October 2012 Mommies board) gender reveal party.  :-)  My family has been through hell and we deserve something to celebrate, in my opinion.  All the naysayers can suck it.  haha.  My invites I designed referred to it as a "Sex Party" to add in a little humor.

DH and I are going to find out on 5/16 (my birthday/Wednesday) and then the party is on Saturday.  We're going to do the pink/blue balloons in a box thing...and let Miles open it for everyone.  We're going to have everyone choose either team pink or team blue.  Then draw a name for a door prize from the winners or losers (haven't decided) and they get a bag of all the things I've been craving. (pickles, pecan spins, sour worms, fruit and a gift certificate to the restaurant where I have been getting endless amounts of pinto beans)

I'm glad you called and that it's normal. I always think it is better to call to check in than to sit around worrying if everything is alright.
